It should be closer but Cotto should be the favorite either way.

Yes, Clottey is a sleeper. He took everything Margarito had to throw and was never even bothered.

Of course it was debatable when Margarito's plaster prime started. Boxing historians and fanatics have debated the starting era of the 'plater prime' for many an eon. There is significant evidence that the 'plaster prime' era came AFTER Clottey but before Cotto, which would render comparisons between the fights almost worthless if this were the case.

Clottey's AFRICAN IVORY JAW will help him in this fight. Cotto can be hurt and Clottey has some VICIOUS left hooks. They will both be at the top of their games this coming Saturday night and I'm sure its going to be ANOTHER great Miguel Cotto fight.

People need to understand: odds are not just a reflection of the likely outcome of a fight, they're a reflection of expected betting trends.

Clottey doesn't have a large fan base, Cotto does; hence, they need longer odds to get any money on Clottey. As well, artificially shortening the odds on Cotto minimizes the loss as more money will come in on him whatever the odds because of the fanbase.

The Haye/Klit fight is a perfect counter-weight. There'd be a good deal of money on Haye out of the UK whatever the odds so they can afford to shorten the odds past what they "should" be (and hence save $$ in the case of a Haye win).

But don't mistake odds for a strict expectation of outcome. They aren't meant to reflect only that. Most changes in odds have nothing to do with a change in outcome expectation (e.g. rumours of a bad camp), but are due to unexpected betting trends.

I agree they should be closer. We will find out what Cotto has learnt through defeat to Margo as he ain't gonna use his normal aggresive style against someone outweighing him by 1 stone plus, who has a great guard and a hard punch. He's gonna have to move but a body attack and clinching is vital. Without it Clottey will get to him.

could these odds be a set up for the casino to steal money from the fan... seeing how clottey probably has a pretty good chance

Cotto should be the FAV but I agree about the odds being so far off...Im takin Clottey TKO and I think this fight will be very competitive regardless of who wins!

They don't set odds with the intention of losing money! Odds are set to maximize gain/minimize loss for the Sports Book; I woulnd't call it stealing, but it is trying to take advantage of people's preferences.

Any sports gambler should watch for fan-favourite "dumb money" - money that is bet despite the actual odds of winning and despite the odds that are set. For example, in baseball it's good to look at odds on teams like the Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers - they have fans that will bet even at poor odds. Sports Books know this and take advantage of it; wise gamblers will try to take advantage of that (e.g. a game with a bad pitching match-up may still give the favourite too much credit).

Clottey/Cotto is a great fight to bet - Books are trying to take advantage of Cotto's popularity. If a great deal of Clottey money comes in, they'll change the odds, but they're betting that won't happen - the astute gamblers' money is swamped by the Cotto fans' money.
