these guys are getting the money fights. when people who worked hard to get in possition for these money fights get passed over, and shelfed. dela hoya vs forbes? ..... cotto vs gomez WTF?

Because ppl that are not necessarily boxing fans like us hear about the contender fighters. Sowhen you're the promoter of a champ you wanna cash his name as much as possible so picking a low-risk high-reward fighter like a contender guy who is well known by the average joe is the best way to do that.
It's not just a Contender thing. Lots of guys get shots they might not deserve. Ibragimov and Austin got title shots for drawing with each other. Forbes is a respected veteran and former title holder. Gomez is on a seven fight unbeaten streak and has some good wins in there. I'm sure they have worked just as hard as anybody to get their shots, even if politics played a part.
I agree, it's not like Bravo and Jonathon Reid are getting those fights.Some Contender guys have done ok.
People are blinded by the fact they where on the show. Lets not forget that before they wher eon the contender they where these 'hard-working' pros as well. They worked hard, and no doubt there whole life has centered around boxing, so you can not begrudge them it that much. However, the Manfredo Calzaghe match-up was bogus, no way Peter should have been let anywhere near Joe.
