Why are the Ward crowd so butthurt about Calzaghe?

i'm saying this country was built on racism and segregation. and it sorta still alive but not a big deal. to be considered white u have to be almost pure. but it doesn't take much for you to be considered black.
    u get it now?

lol, im sure you're gonna get jumped on for this statement, but its not really a "racist" statement.

To a large extent, this is true, and it speaks more to those who feel connected to a fighter in whatever way. There will be a heightened level of pride and ownership involved, with a loss of objectiveness. Here's some obvious reasons why there are "Hardcore fans"

*Fighter LOOKS the same (fan visually identifies w/ fighter)
*Fighter comes from same country (national pride)
*Fighter becomes local favorite (local pride)
*Fighter suffers from & creates issues (sympathy fan)
*Fighter comes from comparable upbringing (empathy fan)
*Fighter always underdog/no respect (sympathy fan)
(so liking a fighter cuz he looks like you/same skin color is alright in my book)

im sure there's plenty more out there, but the bottom line, there really is not a problem being a "hardcore fan" for whatever reason you are, as long as you dont get too antagonistic towards others and lose all sorts of logic and objectivity.

Please stop the troll threads on both sides lawlz

I got that point of view years ago, but thank you for taking the time to type it.

I dont see why kids growing up these days are bound by it when the perception of colour is constantly evolving from what it was. No way is black of the 19th century the same as 21st century black.

You've said yourself that other 'racial groups' identify with black culture, which directly reflects 'blacks' and 'chinese' identifying with white culture. But besides the amalgamation of cultural source material, I come across girls and men everyday of 'mixed' heritage who are impossible to stonewall as black simply because of a barely noticeable difference in skin tone. Are you saying this is the opposite of America? You'd need to look REALLY HARD to notice any giveaway feature on some of these individuals, and the gene pot is going to get a lot more mixed than that in coming years.

it has more to do with facial features more than skin tone. there's alot of light skinned blacks. had i not known Ward's history i wouldn't have even thought he was 50-50. Ward also has a "blackish" accent. so most people will assume that's what he is.
the funny part about it is that blacks and whites don't seem to mind. whites are perfectly fine with not claiming the mixed and blacks are fine with claiming them. just how it is.

they both have horrendous styles, but Ward has accomplished in far less time what it took Joe 15 years to do. Plus Ward does not slap so his style is slightly more bearable. I'm nopt a fan of either fighter but Ward deserves more props. Both very good though.

    Are you African-American?

If not, then how could you possibly know how "most blacks think"?

Seems to me you got it backwards. Calzaghe fans are the ones who seem more butthurt about the fact that Ward's accomplishments already rival (and arguably exceed) anything Joe has done.

Now I have a great deal of respect for both fighters, and think that Joe was once a tremendous talent, and I view Ward as an amazing talent now in his own right.

The fact of the matter is, that's how good Ward is now! Nobody south of cruiserweight is recognized as a perceived threat, and when that happens, fans are forced to look into the past. 168 does not have a very deep or rich history, so of course fans from both sides will inevitably make the hypothetical situations whereby these guys fight in their primes. Why? Because there is no one out there right now worthy of Andre's attention, at least in terms of perceived challenges.

The same thing happens with Wladimir Klitschko. He's so dominant that fans are forced to look to the past to find worthy challengers, which is why you hear fans creating imaginary scenarios that pit Wlad against the likes of Ali, Foreman, Holmes, etc.

It's the same thing really. Ward is simply THAT good.

Just because that's the way your people think, doesn't mean it's the way black people think.

    Projection much??? :think

Some of those are equally as laughable (although there are a few good ones in there).

Joe Cal definitely doesn't mesh with Rocky music. Rocky went to Moscow for nothing. Joe wanted the crown jewels to get on a plane.

Was 168 even as relevant back in the 00's?

Because we know Calzaghe is a God that can not be matched. We prop Ward up because we know Calzaghe's legacy will always cast a shadow on Ward's achievements. It's an Ali Holmes situation all over again.
