Why are there no Jewish fighters now when there used to be a lot?

Your point is the point everybody is making, but there is a backdrop in your point, for me, that is: in the end, jewish-americans stopped having the same ammount of kids in newer generations, so the talent pool is smaller anyway. Is the same reason you had jewish gangsters back then, yeah lower income comes first, but also you don´t become a gangster as a old man, too many young people at the same time in the same place... that is it. It is both things combined.

Slightly off topic but in line with the thread....last night was only the third time in major league baseball history
that a batter, pitcher, and catcher were all Jewish.

I watched a film a few years years ago about a Jewish boxer in England, no idea what it was called, and one the themes of the film was that Jews being boxers was heavily frowned upon by the community.

Well, Barney Ross' real name was Dov-Ber "Beryl" David Rosofsky...

Most probably he adopted Barney Ross because marketing reasons, but he always said the reason was that he didnt want his mother and neighboors to know he was a professional fighter.

I think the main issue was the frequency of fights on Friday nights and Saturdays before sundown.

But outside of maybe some ultra orthodox sects, I don’t think was much getting in the way of any Jews who wanted to play sports ( at least for men).

Well, Barney Ross was son of a Rabbi (who was killed in a robbery when Barney was very young), thus in his case maybe there were religious considerations in play.

I think there are quite a few more than that. Maybe the ones in Israel and Orthodox Jews are 15 million. I've met quite a few Jews in my lifetime I think if there were really that few of them I would have been lucky to meet even one in my lifetime.

You've met a lot because there are a lot on the US East Coast and in Israel, a few in France in England. But there aren't a lot in the world. Even switching methodology of counting it only raises the numbers a couple million. They are a miniscule population on the planet.
