Why are today's fighters so much more muscled?

Very few fighters until the 70s approach the visible muscular conditioning of today's fighters -- or to put it another way, today's fighters are more shredded than ever before. Sure, they had muscle, but not like this:

I wouldn't say it's necessarily a new phenomenon, there have been numerous well-conditioned boxers throughout history.

With today's nutrition and weigh-cutting though, you have boxers that are perhaps more "ripped" than ever (very low bodyfat) but this does not necessarily translate to ability or even conditioning. Making a low weight for a long period can take a lot away from your stamina and eventually hurt you physically. I believe this is what happened with Miranda and Taylor in recent times, along with their skills not being up to par.

Another answer is a taboo in the sports world but an obvious case to anyone who has been involved with athletes. PEDs.

    -Performance enhancing drugs
-Superior/easier weight cutting to extremely low BF%
-A greater emphasis on anaerobic training(weights, plyometric strength stuff etc) as opposed to aerobic

There are some hilariously jacked old school fighters though:

Not even true. There are many ripped fighters around today, some of whom may use or have used PEDs, but there are also many top fighters around today who are superfit but not ripped at all (Calzaghe, Margarito).

It was the same back in the day, there were ripped guys and then there weren't.

I don't think thats a good example. Edison Miranda is an unusually ripped guy. Not that it matters, the less ripped guy right next to him, beat him

What's this preoccupation with muscles 'n cuts?

Seen winos in my neighborhood who ate garbage 'n slept in the street more shredded than Atlas.

You either hit the genetic lottery to look like that after exercise, or you don't.

Yes I do. Because your supposition is untrue. You pick out today's photos because it is available, and not seeing the oldtimers that I saw. You have no idea what the thousands of boxers of the past looked like,[prelims and main-eventers],to make such a bold assertion. Respectfully ,have you seen photos of a few oldtimers like Beau Jack, Harold Johnson, Soldier Kearns, Bob Moha,Jack Dempsey, taut and lean with massive deltoid muscles.?
These oldtimers never trained with modern weights ,but were as "ripped' as today's less durable boxers. There has NEVER been a massive heavyweight
as powerfully muscled as Primo Carnera, but look where it got him. So in answer to your question, the oldtimers were more naturally built for endurance,by and large, and were just as muscular as today's less rugged fighters...Cheers.

I think most fighters below the hW division are as cut as they've always been. However, today's hws are lazy fat asses (except for wlad & vitali) compared to their predecessors of the 1920s-1970s.
