Serious question it seems somehow GGG is one of the most popular fighters without even doing much, for all the hype he gets and getting called an ATG by his fans it would seem this is the logical fight to make. If no one can beat GGG under 160 according to his fans why not take on a challenge? If it's about creating a legacy why not take the biggest legacy fight out there for him? If it's about money a Ward fight is the 2nd biggest payday available, in what reality are fights with Lemiuex, Lee-Sanders winner bigger than a fight with Ward? I'm not even a Ward fan I like Kovalev over Ward but think there fight is 50/50, but GGG became relevant because of the claim that everybody between 3 divisions was ducking him. Even during his promoter issues Ward and Gossen said back in 12" that if GGG wanted a fight they'd put their differences aside and make it. What's up with he excuses? A fight would Ward would not effect his standing or titles at MW so win or lose he can continue there if he so desires. Money wise Ward is a way bigger money fight than Lemiuex or Monre so that excuse is lame. Why are so many GGG fans against or afraid of Ward?
whats wrong with this forum? you can type the whole day , guys forget everything what were explained and wrote 2 minutes ago. for the last time: ggg wants to unify all the belts at 160. after that there is a possibilty to move up. right now he has a big ppv fight coming, after that the next ppv fight is coming against canelo or maybe cotto. after that andy lee. based on a reasonable logic the whole ward ggg topic is stupid and completly pointless. it would be good matchup but right now it`s absolutly not necessary to waste thoughts about this fight.
A fight with Ward has no effect on his standing at 160, If Lemieux is a Big PPV fight than Ward is a blockbuster fight. In no scenario is anybody outside of the Cotto-Canelo winner a bigger fight financially or historically than Ward, when you say 3 divisions are scared of you you kind of take away room for excuses.
GGG called Ward out for 3 years, while Ward rather became a commentator (also for a GGG fight) and fought Rodriguez when GGG was free. Now GGG wants to focus on MW and suddenly Ward comes back, calling out a MW while he's a LHW who also ducks Kovalev and Stevenson. He even became cheeky after GGG signed a fight with Lemieux, he gained real self confidence when he knew GGG won't fight him 2015 anymore. I want to see Golovkin fighting, not begging for a fight with Ward who would never step into the ring with him anyway.
I don't see why not? If Ward-GGG was signed tomorrow it would be the biggest fight in boxing next to Cotto-Canelo, because of both fighters Wards status and GGGs hype. It seems most GGG fans are against this fight and rather Ward move up so they'll never have to fight. It is no why you can praise a guy as some great talk about the best fighting the best then argue anyone at 160 barring the winner of the Lineal Title fight as a better opponent than Ward.
If no one can beat GGG under 160 according to his fans why not take on a challenge? -Such as... who, Lara? He's not allowed on HBO, Golovkin is exclusive to HBO just like Kovalev. Canelo will be a challenge as he weighs the same as GGG on fight night and has better skills than anybody Golovkin's faced up to now. ___________________________ If it's about creating a legacy why not take the biggest legacy fight out there for him? -Golovkin is not 'outgrowing' his division and he's not cutting weight like BHop used to do at 160. So, given those two points his idea of a legacy is to eventually get to BHop's record by fighting 3-4 times a year. Hagler had smaller marquee guys come to him, just like Canelo is on Golovkin's radar. Ward can shoot for legacy by going to LHW because he's cleaned out SMW. Golovkin has a few fights to go to claim the same and be ready to move to SMW if he decides the BHop record is not something he wants. ___________________________ If it's about money a Ward fight is the 2nd biggest payday available, in what reality are fights with Lemiuex, Lee-Sanders winner bigger than a fight with Ward? -They're not, although Lemieux actually sold PPVs in Canada in his last fights. Ward doesn't have the drawing power to equal the risk associated with fighting him... he's the exact opposite of Chavez Jr, who rrepresents a no-risk, big payday guarantee. From a promoter's perspective, you must be pretty desperate to 'want' a Ward fight - who can't sell more than 4K tickets outside of Oakland, and the Cali taxes are preeeeeetty high I hear. ___________________________ I'm not even a Ward fan I like Kovalev over Ward but think there fight is 50/50, but GGG became relevant because of the claim that everybody between 3 divisions was ducking him. Even during his promoter issues Ward and Gossen said back in 12" that if GGG wanted a fight they'd put their differences aside and make it. -Unfortunately you can't believe the Ward/Goossen quote from that period, since Ward got a big zero fights throughout. Kessler made them a generous offer to come to Denmark, Ward & Goossen passed on it - look it up. The 154 to 168 was a statement made in the Fall of 2012, as soon as they were able to get a Macklin type in the ring their focus shifted to 160 unification a la BHop. It's all marketing, Froch and Chavez Jr could have made Golovkin a ton of cash (as opposed to Ward) which is why they were considering those fights. ___________________________ What's up with he excuses? A fight would Ward would not effect his standing or titles at MW so win or lose he can continue there if he so desires. Money wise Ward is a way bigger money fight than Lemiuex or Monre so that excuse is lame. -It would affect his weight, because you don't go up one division to fight the best there right away - don't take my word for it, Virgil Hunter said that. You "need about a year to settle at the weight", and Ward is not fighting Kovalev in his first fight at the weight - he wants two post-Smith tune-ups, making it a hefty 3 tune-ups following his comeback. Golovkin didn't need to build muscle to 168 to fight Junior or Carl, they're not as big a risk as Ward. ___________________________ Why are so many GGG fans against or afraid of Ward? -I don't think they're afraid of Ward, they just want Golovkin to build that muscle up to 168 before he actually gets in the ring with an inside mauler. As far as being "against" Ward, it's pretty clear now that Andre says a lot of BS in the media, case in point being that this supposed offer for a 50/50 split in 2016 was actually sent to K2 after the Lemieux fight was announced. Ward's brand pales in comparison to Golovkin's stock, so to even suggest a 50/50 split is very arrogant.
That is false when GGG first made the 154-68 statement in 12" both Ward and his promoter said they'd put any issues they had to the side to make that fight. Real talk it doesn't take a genius to see that the only reason Ward is about to move to LHW is because one of the 2 guys he said he wanted to fight is afraid to fight him. Also Kovalevs on promoter has already said that they are in talks with Ward and that the fight will happen next year, so clearly Ward or Kovalev aren't afraid of each other. GGG is hyped as this ducked fighter, Ward is a legitimately ducked fighter.
"Real talk it doesn't take a genius to see that the only reason Ward is about to move to LHW is because one of the 2 guys he said he wanted to fight is afraid to fight him." Or because the guy is headlining his own PPV and is mandated to get the Canelo/Cotto winner for the WBC title which is something he's been chasing since 3 years ago while Ward is fighting legitimate bums and drawing absolutely no views and no attention (other then when Ward has GGG's name in his mouth). Honestly, GGG can get the WBC title against Canelo in a mega-event where it'd be a HUGE fight and send him to crossover s****om, MAJOR PPV. OR He could completely abandon that opportunity to go up to 168 for first time in his career, abandon all his goals at 160 to deal with Ward and his ridiculous demands of asking for 50/50 even though he is completely forgotten and not a draw. Golovkin's team would be stupid to do any association with Ward right now with the other opportunities that they have. It doesn't make sense.
Because they know Ward will give GGG that work and they don't want him to stop the GGG hype train.:deal
If all he wanted to do was just to unify then when was he seeking out fights with JCC Jr at 168 and Froch at 168?:deal These guys don't have a belt at 160 for him to unify with.:deal And don't come at me because it's about the money with them because if that's the case why is he trying to just unify when it's convenient you can't have it both ways.
GGG wanted a) unification or b) PPV fight Chavez was a big PPV fight reason why they were willing to go up. How many times does it have to be said.
boxing fans are not against Ward- GGG Golov****s are. ****ing pos fanboys haha they are scared ggg gets outboxed and destroyed like Mathysse a few days ago. always using kovalev as bodyguard and the bumland titles
He can't have it both ways. Either you want to stay at 160 and unify or you want to move up to chase big fights. Also Ward at 168 was a big fight and would have done well better than Lemieux on PPV that's for damn sure and would have meant more legacy wise than any other fight he could have period.
@drozzy to long to quote but some interesting points. 1. Lara is better than anybody GGG has fought, now I'll concede that if the only statement we heard about that was the HBO thing you'd have a point. But instead we hear stuff like Lara isn't a draw or he's boring and this that and the third which invalidates any excuse about networks. I think GGG KOs Lara but he's still better than anyone GGGs fought and they made excuses about it. Alvarez I have beating GGG if/when they fight next year so I have no problem if it actually comes off Alvarez is an elite fighter something GGG hasn't fought. 2. In theory yes if GGG managed to become undisputed at MW it would mean something, but GGGs whole MW reign has been a farce so how much credit does winning a vacant WBA title, and beating Lemieux/Lee-Sanders winner really get none of them guys are proven top level boxers. Just the best of a lackluster division. 3.it takes two to make a super fight, in no world does a GGG-Lemieux fight do better than a Ward fight. Even if they pretend like they don't people who Ward is one of the best fighters in boxing if not the best arguably. If they can hype a bout with Lemieux as a huge fight what do you think happens with a legit huge fight. 4. The only fight during that period both were willing to make as GGG, because of the statement and his rising profile. You can take it with a grain of salt but every since GGG first made the fallout Wards people have been willing to make the fight. 5. The weight thing is an excuses Chavez is bigger than Ward, maybe I'm spoiled as a fan and have high standards because I've seen guys like Pacquaio and Mayweather go up and fight the best in their 1st/2nd fight on a number of occasions. Ward and Kovalev are already negotiating a fight for next year, so Wards aim is to fight the best. GGGs camp just drops excuses big difference Imo. 6.everybody keeps saying GGG is as strong as a HW so that excuses is a bit bs really, between the two who knows what's true or not people are going to side with who they like. As far as money who give a damn who makes what??? In all reality it doesn't matter how popular GGG is Ward makes more money a fight than him, so how is money an argument. A fight between the two would be huge because of both, and in all honestly if I'm super popular and make 1mil a fight and your not popular but make 2mil to fight why should you get peanuts to fight me, if you make more than me?
