What does that have to do with anything? Do you want the man to dare to be great or have a career facing C level fighters and blown up WW so at the end people question his legacy? If GGG continues this route I see a similar career ending like Kostya Zoo another guy who stayed at one weight refused to move up to take challenges and is not seen as one of the best of his era HOF level yes but not a true ATG.

 

Does anybody question Hagler's legacy ? He was doing the same thing -- fighting people coming to MW from lower weights, some naturally, some just to fight him.

Gennady has a clear purpose stated years ago -- to unify MW belts, and he is working on it. If Sturm, Martinez and Quillin weren't ducking him, he would have likely moved up and fought Ward already.

P.S. Kostya Tsiu just grew old and/or lost interest in boxing. He achieved what he wanted and was fighting only once a year in his last 4 years, 2002-2005. I don't see similarities with Golovkin.

To be fair, there are no ATG-Level Boxers in and around the MW division today, who have the aura of Hearns and Duran (and lest we forget... ...Leonard).

But, Golovkin would still deserve credit for unifying the division to become the undisputed MW Champion - would he not?

 

When you are blinded with hate, how can you be fair or give somebody a credit ?

Hopefully, Gennady will soon have Canelo on his resume. There are no more elite fighters around except one former super-middle who is likely can't comfortably make 168 anymore and doesn't make any realistic attempts to fight other top SMWs. Most likely, he doesn't want to fight Golovkin either -- just was looking for publicity knowing that GGG will not be available any time soon.

 

There is Andre Ward. Bumlovkin would get WAY more credit for beating Ward than anyone currently @ 154 or 160.

Beating the Andy Lees and David Lemieuxs of the world count for *nothing* where legacy is concerned.

 

I agree. Ward at 168 might have been and option but Ward at 175, which is where he is at now?

I'm not suggesting that Lee and Lemieux lead to a legendary legacy but, if Golovkin were to unify the 160 division to become undisputed MW Champ (which hasn't been achieved in nearly 10 years), beating Alvarez along the way, he would surely deserve 'some' credit - wouldn't he?

 

Bumlovkin has shamelessly ducked Ward. Lets call it like it is.

If Avarez beats Cotto and Bumlovkin then beats Alvarez - sure, he would deserve credit for beating an "A" list opponent.

 

Was that bout ever seriously talked about between the relevant camps? From what I've read, it seems to have always been talked up but with no real impetus behind the chatter.

Ward shamelessly ducked Golovkin for years. Now he makes an "offer" knowing that Golovkin is unavailable, and it is ducking from Golovkin's side ???

 

This should actually have been an easy fight to make.

But I think both camps are chasing money that just isn't there.

 

I think its one of the best fights possible and hope it gets made.

I'm just not about to jump all over GGG for not detouring from MW unification when its finally becoming a possibility while Ward wants major concessions out of line with his leverage.

People should stop worrying over it so much, the fact that both sides keep talking about the fight means the fight is likely to happen. Why spend a bunch of time publicizing/building a potential matchup that wont happen.

 

Team Triple Duck don't want any. They'd rather fight guys with *6* KOs and Joachim Alcine leftovers. Lets be brutally honest here, Bumlovkin's resume reads like a grocery list of TOMATO CANs. He's going on 34 years old with 33 pro fghts without a loss - yet he's still on prospect status. Beating Lemiuex does what exactly for his legacy? *Nothing*.

It should be clear as day to any objective observer that this guy is a FRAUD who doesn't want to take on any REAL challenges.
