I Find It Interesting That So Many People Are Picking Paul Williams, I Never saw this coming when the fight was announced. Just last week it seemed like lot of people weren't to hot on him. I Am Curious as to everyone's reasons for picking Paul though, I feel like a lot of people are picking him for the wrong reasons.

I would also like to know why you are picking pavlik over pw? is it because he has never felt someone like pavlik's power? is it because of pavliks boxing ability?

what is your motivation for your pick?

I am picking Pavlik, to finally put it together once again, and to look impressive once again.

If not, it will officially be the end of the Pavlik era.

He desperately needs this win and he is gonna hurt Paul, Williams is not as elusive as Hopkins.

/\ If Pav is what he was before the Hop mess then all day to him. They are similar fighters, similar workrate. Williams is faster and lighter on his feet. Pav is stronger, better finisher, and a more accurate puncher. Pav by mid to late round ko.

Williams shows new dimensions and amongst them are use of angles against a less than super-mobile MW. He created great, great angles for shots against Winky and his famous defence. Even though Winky was pretty closed to used up (probably) i was deeply impressed by that.

Add the Williams physicality (he won't be a tiny MW) and how badly Pavlik struggled versus Bernard's use of angles and I think the most sensible pick is Williams surviving some tough moments to grab a decision.

Paul Williams and George Peterson are under estimating Pavlik, over estimating Paul, and up to this point, it looks like they have a fight plan put together by a 10 year old down syndrome kid. Doubt me? Go read what PW told Fight Hype.com.

what is there not to get ??

    <<see pavlik before hopkins fight>>

incredible work rate, crushing power in both hands, accuracy and staright punces down the middle vs. a guys that just seems frankly frail and throws way to many wide punches from weird angles for his own good

I think Paul can come out fast and take a few early rounds with his speed and movement. Williams is used to being able to box and with his reach advantage stay at a safe distance. Pav has good reach and will be able to easily shorten the distance. i see the 1-2's starting to land at range, and the uppercuts when Paul comes close. Paul also goes to the ropes when he gets tired, a place where Pav does some of his best work and I think will be where Paul drops.

i know you know why b/c we had a good discussion about this...

    i see from paul:

    1. a guy who will smother smaller fighters with output and workrate and who has the stamina to do it all fight long. its actually quite impressive to watch his previous fights and watch him do this.

    2. but, b/c he has used this technique against smaller guys to his advantage, he hasnt had to worry about using his reach, keeping out of his opponents range consistantly, or worrying about whether he's leaving himself open. he's just overwhelmed his previous (and smaller) opponents. and that includes winky.

    3. in watching his fights, he does throw on the move. paul is a helluva athlete and if he could swing a bat could be a helluva center fielder. the problem is, he doesnt have that much on his shots when he moves and seems, to me at least, that he sets himself and stands in front of his guy and throws when he wants to make a point.

    4. he does throw from many awkward angles when he sets himself but often leaves himself vulnerable to shots down the pipe.

    i see from pav:

    1. someone who is naturally bigger than paul and won't be overwhelmed by paul's output since he's been hit by way harder shots than paul will throw. i also see someone who throws damn near as many shots as paul as well.

    2. b/c of this i see paul failing to use his reach, failing to keep out of range and his spotty d hurting him against pav since pav won't be overwhelmed and will be firing right back w/ meaningful shots all night.

    3. this will be especially true when paul sets himself to throw from all those angles and leaves himself open to pav's best weapons.

that's about as brief as i could make it. but i will point out that i don't expect paul to wilt right in front of our eyes the first time kelly hits him w/ a right hand. paul seems to have a good chin. its the fact that he will get hit w/ so many of them.

so while i pick pav ko/tko 8-10, its not only b/c of pav's power, but also pav's workrate (which hasnt gotten enough attention w/ all the talk of pw's workrate) and pw's inability to hit pav w/ anything that would deter him from walking him down. hopkins could hit pav w/ hard enough shots to make pav blink just long enough to throw pav's timing all off and allow bhop to set himself for the next onslaught. i don't see pw being able to hit pav w/ anything near as hard as 180lbs of bhop.

I love boxing and think i know more about it .... way more about it then the average person... but for me to claim i know more about it then Peterson (who has been training for over 20 years) and paul williams (who has been fighting for 15 years give or take) would be stupid of me....

if they believe they see something in pavlik that we dont... good for them... it just may be true

mosley & nazim said they were going to ko margarito... nobody believed
roach said it would only take 3 rounds to dispose of hatton... nobody believed
roach said manny woudl obliterate oscar... nobody believed
pavlik said he would walk down miranda... nobody believed
bhop said he would prove to pavlik that he was lied to... nobody believed

i cant think of any more examples.... but i mean you just have to take what these people say with a grain of salt.... anything could happen really... paul might knock pavlik out in 2 rounds.... pavlik might knock paul out in 2 rounds... pavlik might ud paul.... paul might ud pavlik...

we as fans can only know so much

    i agree...
