I know they are shite punches to look at etc and completely inneffective and damaging. Could rack you up the points. Don't get me wrong I don't want them to be legal or ever see them in a boxing match. But whats the reasoning for them being banned?
why pay to watch someone get ***** slapped when we could just watch your little sister do it to you for free?
Same reason headbutts, knees and elbows arent allowed. It's not a punch, slaps aren't allowed either. This content is protected
Because those are the rules and that's about that. That's like asking why can't I use a baseball bat. Its just not allowed, although it could be a very good point scoring strike if it was (MMA style spinning back fist)
They are not suppose to allow slaps (forward) either but some fighters made a whole career out of doing it
The pivot punch which is a sort of spinning backhander used by George La Blanche that ko'd Nonpariel Jack Dempsey, it was banned by the New York Commision in 1919, but interestingly Ohio stated that it was not going to be banned in the upcoming Dempsey Willard title fight in Toledo. Only reason i could see that a backhanded punch is illegal is possibly that to throw such a punch you are in effect likely turning back upon your opponent, that is of course not within rules, as opponent can in effect not legally strike their opponent in that position.
