In many cases it is because the "experts" making the predictions do not have all of the relevant information. For example: Has the favorite not been training hard? Has the favorite gone back to drugs or alcohol? Has there been legal or domestic troubles interfering with the favorite's focus? Is the favorite sick or injured, but, doesn't want to lose a payday? In a sport like boxing, all of these factors can have a massive impact on a fighter's performance, that, if known, may change the prediction.

I don't think they know anymore about boxing than anyone else they are self proclaimed but understanding matchups, strategy etc.....is for someone who really knows the sport and the fighters involved. An example was the Morrison-Mercer fight I knew of Morrison and his people so I called people who had been in his camp who had the opinion he would be stopped because Mercer could take his power but Morrison had an issue with anxiety in front of crowds under pressure and his chin was questionable.....that is the type of honest information you need to predict a fight a real no kidding objective look at fighters....most experts are considered experts because they may have contacts who give them info but it doesn't mean they understand a fighters strengths and weaknesses and matchups.....sports handicappers are the mathematical actuaries of the sportsworld
