some of the boxing gyms all over the world are legendary in boxing circles but they arent known outside the boxing world. i'm not saying boxing gyms will ever be on par w/ the great cathedrals of sport like wrigley field or yankee stadium or fenway park or wembley, etc....but still

ring introductions always claim the city the fighter is hailing from but they never mention "fighting out of the legendary _____ gym in the fighting city of ______" don't ya'll think this would be a good thing??

i think it would bring attention to the place where fighters are born.

    thoughts???

(i'm pretty sure its happend before but just not enough)

right but even in lesser fights if a local gym gets some hype, maybe it would bring some kids in there to see what the fuss is all about, no??

Because fighters are gym whores now-a-days. There was a time that you trained out of a gym and it was the gym that you started boxing in. Now fighters pick up and move to lower tax states and leave the home gym for good.

I remember when fighters would wear Kronk Gym on thier shorts and the colors. No longer the case.

yeah is suppose you are right. but still, some of our great sports complexes are as big as the sports themselves. it would be nice if boxing recognized its gyms on its biggest stages.

You're right. They should do whatever they can to promote the sport, and featuring or talking about boxing gyms that people can have access to is a great idea. Maybe one of these promotion companies can even set up and promote a website at televised fights where people can find boxing gyms in their own area by city or zip code...

Anybody that fought out of Kronk usually got it mentioned in the intro.

I actually think that would be a good idea :good

Not only that but it brings some recognition and 'unity' for/to the gym... puts its name out there and would only help popularity.

i mean, they discuss where a fighter was born, then what city a fighter is fighting out of....just toss in what gym he trains at.

back when i was a young kid...every boxing fan knew mike tyson "hailed from catskill NY!!!" i remember hearing that line so many times. it would be nice if young boxing fans grew up with these great fighters not only knowing what city they fought out of but also where they trained at.

:thumbsup a lot of casual fans probably think boxing exists in las vegas only and all the big names must train there. well, start putting it out there that there are a lot of very old and heritage rich gyms out there and it would have to resonate.
