Why aren't there more fights in Florida...

The new Amway Center in Orlando seems like it could be a jewel for boxing. I know there's been a few fights at American Airlines Arena in Miami-Dade, and Bank Atlantic Center in Broward, but there's no state tax in Florida and considering tourism is big in Florida, plus Florida people have to be at all special events...I even think the Alexander vs. Bradley fight could've done better anywhere in Florida. There's a good Argentina population in South Florida too and I believe Martinez could fill up an arena, and we all know Mayweather and Pacquiao could sell out regardless of location, but wonder why the new Amway Center has not been used yet for a fight.

    Sadly, this is the truth.

There's much more interest in MMA, at least in S.Fla.

Wasn't Vasquez Jr fighting in Kissimee for a while? I dont know how attendance were for his fights but I went to his fight with Sonsona here in PR and that place was packed but then again boxing is huge here.

There are a lot of cards in Florida compared to most states. All of New England has far less fights than they have in Florida.

Yes, Vazquez Jr. fought in Kissimmee I think in October. I don't know if he ever lived there, but you know there's lots of boricuas in Kissimmee/Orlando. I don't know the venue it was at either so don't know the attendence. Tito fought Mamadou Thiam at American Airlines Arena, but that was way back in 2000. I'd love to see a big time fight card at AA Arena, or even Amway Center in Orlando.

And Juanito, what part of PR are you in?

I live in Trujillo Alto and work in San Juan. I just checked boxrec and 13 out of the 20 fights Vazquez Jr has been in were at the Civic Center in Kissimee and he had one in Miami. His last fight was at the Silvers Spurs Arena in Kissimmee also

Oh ok.....I'm from Loiza....but here in Miami-Dade now, by way of NYC......I've never been to Civic Center in Kissimmee or the other venue in Kissimmee. I don't know, I just think it'd be great for the area to have a "big time" fighter; such as Mayweather Jr, Manny, and now even Martinez to grace one of these arenas down here with a fight. The Las Vegas ones are decent. The Cowboys stadium packed a bunch of people in there and I can only imagine the crowd was pro-Manny in fight vs. Clottey, and even though I'm sure lots of Mex in Texas were for Margarito, but I am pretty sure Manny had a lot of Mex fans for him too...and probably more.
