1.Weight class. This is the biggest factor that will playout in this fight.
Calzaghes limited punching power will be even more apparent moving up in weight class. His biggest advantage, hand speed, will suffer by the move up in class. Hopkins will be much stronger than Calzaghe and will most likely score a KO by the 9th round.

2.Calzaghe is a south paw, hopkins destroys south paws.

3.Oponents advantage clearly belongs to Bhop, taking on greats such as RJJ, Winky, and Taylor, Trinidad, De Lahoya etc. Calzaghe's list of notable fights is quite short.

4.Bernard is a dirty fighter on the inside. Calzaghe loves to fight on the inside. Bernards loves to cut guys on the inside with those "accidental" head butts. Calzaghe is very susceptible to cuts. Look to see Calzaghe get a nasty cut over a eye by the 6th round.

5.Hopkins is one of the best defenders in boxing. He is an expert holder.

6.Hopkins is possibly the smartest fighter in the sport and see's something (probably a few of the things I already mentioned above) that made him take this fight.

    7.Euro-Hype.

    8.Fighting in America.

9.I have watched Calzaghe's fights. He has tremendous handspeed but little power. As I stated earlier, his strengths will be dimished and his weaknesses will be exclamated with this move up in weight class.

I simply think Calzaghe has too many holes in his game to win a fight against a technicaly perfect Hopkins. The only thing that can save Calzaghe this fight is if Bhop suddenly fights his age and becomes "old".
Watching his most recent fights would have me believe otherwise thoe.

Anyway, theres my explanation. I plan on putting money on Hopkins and expect to get some very good betting lines. Deffinetly worth the risk/reward.

    Worst post of the year.

Did he beat RJJ really? Calzaghe is drained at 168... your fighter will win because he's great at cheating? thats good for you. not lost to southpaws? Joe hasnt lost at all let alone four times. you forget to mention hopkins has looked like **** since Tarver fight and is 7 years older than calzaghe

    Point 7 is particularily insightful.

    Hopkins didn't beat Roy Jones.

    You're a dick.

Calzaghe is gonna ***** slap the old man. And then after Pavlik KO's Joe, Calzaghe will go back to being the nobody Euro fighter he was before he beat an overrated Jeff Lacey.

I love to see the contrasting views of how Hopkins-Calzaghe is going to play out. Each side seems so utterly confident in their analysis and predictions, and I see good points on both sides. But I'll be damned if I can figure out what'll happen with this fight. Both fighters seem to have exceptional abilities to shut down their opponents. So who'll be shut down on April 19th? Maybe both? Then what?
The fight itself may not be fascinating, but the result will .

Funny how people say Calzaghe's punch will be better at higher weight class.

We tend to say the contrary.

    Ok.

No. What I meant there was that he fought a Jones in his prime , went 12 competitive rounds with him. He also did not beat Taylor but I included him that list as well.

That could be the case. I don't think it is. I think speed fighter going up in weight class is taking on a greater risk than a puncher doing the samething.
RJJ went up to light heavyweight and lost his flash, and could not handle the punches in that class.

He is not "my" fighter. I do like Bhop to a certain degree and I do think he is going to go down as one of the greatest of all time, but he is one of the most boring fighters to watch, and yes he does cheat more than anyone I can think of in the ring.. And he is extremely adept at it.

I watched the Winky fight. Everyone looks bad against him, and it was the sort of fight I expected. But he won and won handily. He did not look like ****.

Some of you are taking this thread very personaly.

I am not the huge hokins fan or the Joe calzaghe hater you think I am.

I just see so many posts overlooking bhop and I wanted to show the flipside.

I do believe that Hopkins will defeat Calzaghe for the reasons I mentioned in a KO. And I will be putting my money where my mouth is.

If I lose, then so be it. Its a smart bet imo.

thats your opinion dude i see calsaghe beating hopkins 8 rds to four behop is just too sloow in the first rounds so calsaghe will take advantage of that and if hopkins try to turn up the heat he will get tire in the later rounds
