Why Brits wont fight in the USA

Well there have been some obvious problems in what has been relayed to us. During the American Revolution, many are quoted as saying "the British are coming" in reference to spotting an invading army. I guess they meant to say English. I honestly never knew there was a difference.

There are probably some things we all are misinformed on in every country about others. But America seems a bit isolated.

 

The greats come to the big stage and perform where the best competition is and in boxing that competition is in the USA. I agree with a poster that said if you are 40 and 0 in Denmark whats it really mean? any one with decent skill can amass a padded record and make defenses, havent guys like Ottke done it. A fighter can be protected and hide and avoid the tough challenges and develop a following . Its usually a national thing Im Puerto Rican hence I love all Puerto Rican fighters and root for them but not to the point where I am delusional if Cotto ducks the tough opponents or has his shortcomings I admit it. I am a boxing fan first and if Tito is one dimensional then I will admit it. Trinidad could have stayed at 154 fought safe fights and probably still be undefeated but he didnt and thats the difference seeking the glory, looking to be the best too much emphasis on unbeaten records these days and not on the quality of opposition.

 

Ireland or (Eire) is governmed entirely by itself and therefore not part of the UK

Of course, we have States which absolutely despise one another.

This is because Lewis fought out of Britain, with a British promotor, British money, etc etc.

When Lennox won the gold in the Olympics, he didnt just pack up and moe to London. Get real!

Lennox was wined and dined by promotors and managers and trainers, all offering him different deals and the like. In the end I think the Brits offered him more money, or something like that. IF not more money, more something. Though it wouldnt surprise me if he got more money from the Brits in the 80s! This was the day of Tyson, I'm sure heavyweight prospects were worth less when he was at the height of his 'reign of terror', in America that is!

But anyway all I'm saying, is that NO WAY did Lennox fight for Britain out of pride for his country or anything like that, it was business.

 

You dont know that, only Lennox knows that so dont pretend you do. Either way, Lennox is British so end of story.

I'm not complaining about Lennox though, or the UK. I love both - Lennox is my favorite boxer actually! I was even a fan of him as a KID in the mid 90s when all of my peers were obsessed with Tyson or Holyfield, but mostly Tyson!

That being said, Lennox isn't really a TRUE Brit. I mean he may even feel he is, but he fights in Emanuel Stewards style (during his prime, and his reign as champion that is), and he learned his fundamentals and fought in the amateurs in Canada. His first time boxing was in Canada, and he was fighting using the skills he learned there basically UNTIL Steward took over his training, and helped him become the BEAST that the UK finally learned to love, and now even the US is warming up to!

Btw just to clarify some numbers, I always thought Lennox moved to Canada in 77 (when he was 12, because he was born in 65). And he moved to Britain after the 88 Olymppics. So that would be, 11 years. Not "6-7"

The place where you spend your adolesence and teenaged years, and become an adult is very important. Just saying..

Everyone knows USA is thye home of boxing, where the biggest fights are, because the biggest money is there.

But plenty of British fighters have gone to the states and WON just like plenty of US fighters have come to the UK and LOST, and vice versa.

Just another bull**** post to try and bait the brits, but with no thought put into it, its laughable

First of all I'd like to say it's great to see some sensible debate on here for a change with some well thought out points made by most who have contributed. We will, inevitably, get idiots throwing in pointless one liners in an attempt to spark petty squabbles because they have nothing better to do with their time but may I suggest we ignore those posts?

I think it's best we stay off the subject of Americas general contribution to the world as we don't want this to get political. I will concede that the American stage is the largest one for people to make their mark I just take exception to the arrogance at which that point is often made. I also take exception to the typical "you aint s**t until you've been to the states a** hole" comments that constantly crop up from low brow morons.

I think you misunderstood a few of my points chimba. I was presenting golf & tennis as examples of sports we do share an interest in. Also, you completely misunderstood my point about most of your sports. It's not about where you play them its about what other countries participate in them. It would be no great achievment "kicking our a**es" at sports we dont know how to play would it?

My last paragraph was not a personal attack on anyone it was more of an attempt to warn off the aforementioned idiots from posting their usual nonsense. This is by no means a closed debate & if we come to the conclusion that fighters should indeed need to travel to the states to prove themselves so be it. I just want to try & discuss the roots of why that belief is held by so many.

This whole thread is born out of the American posters frustration and self loathing that a bunch of drunk English booed the US national anthem in their backyard and not one of the people from the 'nation of the brave' would confront these evil Brits.
