Looking beyond the bitterness though and obvious baiting by our American cousins - i would have to agree with some of the points made...American trainers seem to be a step up imo.
LOL @ the british post i think this forum made some brits cry... good job thread master check out them defending their fighters
That's one funny thread. Why single out Brits? How about Germany? The whole point is, boxers go (or stay) wherever they can make money. Home advantage is often determined by the promoter, not the birthplace of a fighter anyway.
:hey That's about the most intelligent post on this subject I've read yet. I still don't think fighters have padded records if they don't go to the States, but I do accept that the purses are often the largest there hence the percieved prestige - However, prestige & purses doesn't equate to fighting skills, which the naysayers will find out when Calzaghe spanks Hopkins... :hey
A few simple questions How many divisions do Americans rule? How many people can you get in your venues? Which fighters are you referring to at the moment?
It is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The UK is therefore England, Scotland, Wales (these three are Great Britain) and Northern Ireland.
As for the boxing, seven world champions for a country 1/4 the size of the USA cannot be that bad. I would be pretty incredible if the UK produced more good boxers than the USA given the difference in population, and given that boxing is a fringe sport in the UK. I do agree that, like it or not, the USA is centre stage when it comes to world boxing, and so to get the most global attention you need to fight there. However, those who get the most attention are not necessarily the best boxers out there. Also, having to fight abroad, especially at the top level, will inevitably put you at a a disadvantage when compared with fighting in your home country, and so the fact that the USA is centre stage would seem to me to give the US fighters a bit of an advantage in the big fights.
I normally just dont even bother with this USA vs. England BS , i think patriotism in boxing is nonsense , it is not football where you have sports players representing their countries/regions . This is 2 boxers boxing for to win for themselves , all the patriotics have got it wrong . Im simply a boxing fan , obviously i have favorites , but its nothin to do with nationality . Madness . But when i see someone talking total bul**** , i must speak up . Tyrpin beat Robinson in England , so the same could be said vice versa on that one. How many fights did Buchanan win in USA before he lost ? Hamed won over there aswell . What about Ted 'Kid' Lewis and Jack 'Kid' Berg ? And Loyd Honeyghan . It doesnt matter where fighters fight , the better guy will win . Have you got some kind of chip on your shoulder ? Dont know if someone else has said this , ive just seen this thread
Fair enough, the thread was for fun..Geez people took it so seriously. Notice how I singled out Lewis as Canadian when in fact he is both British and Canadian. Its to get a debate going. Im just doing my part for the Joe and BHop fight. Thats why I already prefaced Donald Curry losing to Honeyghan...that was a British mugging of my Fave fighter. I also conveniently omitted Alan Minter..great Brit fighter. Anyway one cannot deny though that there are some sort of comfort fighting in your background. Like I said I cannot fault the brits..they can make just as much in the Isles than they could make here. Its all about the money really
No they got away with it because they did it in Las Vegas a tourist city. Had they pulled that **** in New York or in the South they would have gotten beat the **** down.:deal
You're out of your ****ing mind. Go to NYC or some of the southern cities and you'll get beat the **** up and shot the **** up as well. You don't have a clue as to what you're talking about.:-(
