first thing I am pissed right now but this is a drunken moment of clarity. People critissize Calzaghe for being taken to a decision by Ricky Thornbey but these same people forget about Syd Vanderpool. People also bring up Hopkins losses but they also forget if he had of been the HBO boy he would have won all of his fights.
Both of these guys are some of my favourite fighters because of the way they came through adversity. The way Calz was bulleyed when he was young and the way Hopkins brought himself to greatness through the roughth side of an American Ghetto.
Personnally I see these two GREATS being along side the very underated GREATS in Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank. Evan the Great Roy Jones was taken to a decision by some bums but he over shadows all of these fighters. I think Roy Jones has never beaten a guy the current versions of B-Hop and Calzaghe could not of beaten (including what was a green B-Hop IMO) but he has proved his Greatness in the same way Sugar Ray Leonarn did. I honestly think Calzaghe won his bout with Hopkins even though Hopkins won his rounds in a more convincing style but I rate these two amazing fighters as equals even though that bout itself comes down to opinion that these two shared. I see that as a fitting way to end their amazing and mostly unbotherd rivaly and I also see Calzaghe's current latest victory as a good way to undermine the ATG but definetly steroid using Roy Jones Jr. Think what you like about these two fighters but I personnally think that if Hopkins talent had been matched the way Calzaghe's has then they only would have swapped records. I think that these two great fighters split themselves with nothing but opinion like Chris Eubank/Nigel Benn did and that is even futher proved by the fight they shared.
