Alot of people try to say Calzaghes beat a shot Eubank, but they dont note that Eubank fought 6-7 months before Joe beat him and around 5 monnths before that scoring KOs in both (against poor opposition) and before that he was fighting Collins to a SD. After Calzaghe beat him, he went up to CW and gave WBO champ Thompson 2 hard fights. Thats how shot he was when Calzaghe put him down and widely outpointed him.

Calzaghe did not go to America until all the fighters were over 35........
He was a blatant "homeboy"....he was good but not this legend everyone thinks he is.....

    Calzaghe was the chizamp.

It was the 'homeboy' yanks who didn't fancy a trip to blighty.

Mind you, can't blame them when you look at what happened to those that did manage over. :good

I meant it as a compliment Bailey. You may disagree with a large portion of ESB, but you do it repectfully and with sincerity.

Joe was the champ the man of the division, why should he have to travel to them?
Who did Calzaghe not meet in his division that was willing to face him?
Who was Calzaghe supposed to go to America and meet in the SMW division? He beat the best SMWs America had to offer in --
    Brewer
    Mitchell
    Sheika
    Manfredo
    Lacy

Hopkins backed out of fighting Calzaghe when he said he would go to America to face him and Calzaghe beat Hopkins when he was The Ring LHW champ, the #1 man of the division in America. Hopkins had just come off a win against Wright and went on to beat Pavlik, he was that shot.
Jones was still in The Ring top 10 LHWs so it was a good win for the champ against a top 10 fighter in his division, which was really just a fight between to guys of similar age and eras

SMW was a barren division. A stop over point. We can thank Joe Calzaghe, in large part, for bringing some sort of relevancy to the division, but the competiton has never been substantial in the divison until recently.

If you take the positive perspective you use for JC's resume and apply it universally, what happens then?

This thread has had me in tears, literally. That video posted on page 3 is a comedy masterpiece, that Aston i highly doubt is your's, but if it is... well done you own the cheapest Aston Martin money can buy.

Firstly, i'm from England, and i'm one of the first people to jump on Calzaghe for his below parr resume. In my mind, Kessler is the only properly vaild win, i can't take nothing from it, and i take my hat off to Calzaghe, as Kessler brought out the best in him. Other than that...

Manfredo, i don't care who ranked him, he was an absolute joke.

Hopkins, i'm one of the people who fought this fight was misjudged, fair enough the "punch" stat's favour Calzaghe, but were they really punches or just slaps?

Jones Jr, does'nt even deserve to be mentioned as Roy should of had a fork stuck in him longg before this fight.

Lacey, came from America, a record of knocking out a few tomato cans, and if Calzaghe had'nt exposed him, somebody along the lines would of.

They're the "BIG FIGHTS" on Calzaghe's resume according to most people, and only Kessler was the legit, full blown 100% credit deserved victory.

Wether it was Frank Warren, or wether it was Joe himself stopping him going to America early, fighting Hopkins/Jones in their peak, will remain to be unknown, but that's why people (including myself) will always have a bone to pick with Calzaghe.
Comparing him to Mosley or Floyd in my opinion is stupid, 2 fighter's who will go down in history, with no question mark's about them (unless you ask a *******), who have hovered highly in the mythical P4P rankings for most of their careers, have won world titles in 3 weight's or more, and who have many credible win's against world class and HOF or future HOF opponents. I've said my case, wether people agree or not is their own opinion as this is mine... i just beg for people not to agree with the TS lol

Calzaghe haters are getting roasted today!

Dominating who? C level fighters? Mosleys resume is pitiful, its not just that he was smashed up by Cotto who Pac dominated and KO'eed, but the fact he has so so few wins.

End of the day, this thread has exposed Mosley as the biggest hype job with no substance in boxing history.

We have to remember, Collins retired rather than face calzaghe, Toney ate his way to HW rather than face Calzaghe, Nunn bitched out, RJJ refused and instead fought bin men and janitors which the American boxing fans lapped up, Johnson ducked him after his serious spinal injuries, everything was stacked against Joe Calzaghe.

The problem is, the current crop may go on to do good things. That chapter is as of yet unwritten. That older crop did nothing. I don't begrudge Calzaghe any of his accomplishments. Or his records or his talent. He was a terrific fighter. But his resume is his resume(regardless the reason for the absence of quality opposition) and its not impressive.
