Why can GSP so easily takedown these great wrestlers?

Jesus, how many pages of people logically explaining it, yet you still get it so very wrong.

Nobody has ever even seen GSP wrestle, which is NOT JUST A TAKEDOWN CONTEST.

Even if GSP got a takedown in a wrestling match, which is pretty unlikely, what exactly is he going to do? Turn Koscheck? Not likely. Run a pinning combination on him? Why would GSP have ever practiced pinning somebody?

Why would GSP be proficient in the aspects of wrestling that are specific to wrestling matches when he has never been a competition wrestler? Why would he practice pinning combinations? Reversals? Exposure points? Or how to defend these things?

You have convinced me. You don't do any combat sport period. Go learn something and then come to people who actually have experience in area they are talking about.

    WTF?

First of all... none of this has jack **** to do with GSP, as he is neither actively competing in Freestyle, or Folkstyle wrestling.

Second, if you think that people only learned "folkstyle" from wiki, then you just showed your own ignorance on the subject. I have competed in Folkstyle my entire life... and trained quite a bit in freestyle and Greco Roman. Not only is the term "folkstyle" pretty common knowledge, but it is also very different from either freestyle or Greco. Transitioning into Freestyle from Folkstyle is probably the easiest for most people, but they certainly aren't the same. Hell, it took me forever before I ever got used to the idea that I could lock hands in freestyle while on the ground without it being a pinning combination. Not only are the rules different, the entire point system, and set up of the match is completely different.

You guys are really exposing your own lack of knowledge. Sorry, I am not going to be out argued on this issue. I have wrestled my entire life, and I am currently deciding on whether or not to take an offer to be a head coach in my hometown. I happen to know just a little bit about wrestling. Bobby Douglas, former head coach of Iowa State, and Olympic Head Coach grew up about 5 minutes away from where I live. I know him personally, and have even put on wrestling clinics with him. I think not only are you overestimating what you understand about the sport, but that you are drastically underestimating the knowledge that I am bringing into this discussion. I am not speaking from a "biased" point of view because I am a wrestler... I am speaking from a educated point of view, because I know a lot about the sport. I respect GSP and I am a big fan of his. I think that KOS is cocky, and disliked him since he was on TUF.... however that isn't going to cause me to pretend that GSP could beat KOS in a wrestling match. I don't care whether we are talking about Folkstyle or Freestyle. KOS was actually training for the Olympics in Freestyle before switching to MMA for the money.

I'm actually surprised by these questions. You must think that GSP is going to show up at camp to train with these Olympic wrestlers and they are going to change their practices and drills and way of training for him  Jesus ****ing christ! He goes there and trains in WRESTLING with WRESTLERS!!! He doesn't go and train MMA style takedown techniques with Olympic Wrestlers, that would kill the entire point of training with wrestlers. The idea of the way GSP trains is to become not only comfortable, but elite in all the 3 most important aspects of MMA. He wants to become a standup fighter, a BJJ practitioner and a wrestler independantly....and at the same time work on meshing his skills togethers :deal

Now I've been accused of being ignorant and never competing in combat sports on this thread. At least I understand the benefit that comes with him training wrestling in its entirety :deal It enables you to get in the mind of a wrestler, to actually become a wrestler so when you fight a guy with a wrestling background you know where they are coming from and what they might be thinking. Again, why would he go to a wrestling gym to train with Olympic wrestlers and then when he gets there say "No guys, we're just doing takedowns and I'm gonna set you up for them by punching you in the face"????? :patsch :patsch :patsch :patsch Are you still sitting on your high horse thinking you know everything? Maybe you need to sit down and think about this a little more :think

On this thread alone. You guys have called me ignorant. Accused me of lying about ever practicing or competing in wrestling, BJJ, Boxing, Kickboxing, Kempo and MMA. You have said GSP is lying about his wrestling to hype himself. You have said his coach is lying in order to hype him. You have said his Olypmic wrestler training partners are misleading him or lying about how he would do in the Olympics. You have completely disregarded what has been seen in the ring....him tossing every wrestler he has ever face around like a dummy. And all your answer is...."your ignorant" "I used to wrestle, trust me I know more than you" and other **** along those lines. Give me some solid evidence before you start personally attacking me next time. 3 years is a long ****ing time and I think he's been training wrestling even longer than that. Especially if that time is spent training with the best in the country :deal You ****ing guys better hope to god I don't find a guy who started wrestling in 10th grade and was a state champ by 12th grade :rofl How could that possibly happen, surely he'd have to beat guys who were doing since they were 12yrs old....it just wouldn't be possible. :bart

Is Wrestling more complex then MMA? Because he pretty quickly became the best MMA fighter in the world.

And I only brought up BJ Penn because you can bet your right testicle that There are Arrogant ****ing BJJ blackbelts out there who have been training since diapers that would claim positively and ignorantly (much like you guys are about wrestling) that NOBODY could walk into my studio and after one year of training out grapple or submit me. BUT IT HAPPENED.

Listen BDawg, here's the thing, it is you who has to bring some solid evidence to the table not US. Our evidence consists of facts that are there for everyone to see. Koscheck has an extended history in

Why would his olympic training partners encourage him to do it then? This is really the point I'm hung up about. Olympic wrestlers who train with him and his coach are pushing him and claim he could compete at an olympic level in

Ok, how about this. The majority in the practice of BJJ would think it was absolutely impossible for him to earn his Black Belt in 3 years.....that I'm sure your aware of the evidence. Your missing the point though. There are exceptions to every rule. There are standout talents who can do unexplainable things. GSP is regarded worldwide as one of the best 3 MMA fighters in the world and the best grappler in the WW division. He has a ****ing Karate background. If he can become world class in grappling in such a short period of time, why not wrestling?
