Floyd at the age of 28 and 29 fought Gatti, Judah, and Baldomir. He brought in 300 K buys in each

Canelo at the age of 23 fought Angulo and Lara, he brought 300 K in each.

Canelo was younger, does not know English, is less charismatic, fought lesser known opponents and brought in the same PPV buys as bronze Olympian Floyd Mayweather.

ODLH and Pacquiao proved you don't need to be undefeated. I'm I saying Canelowill be the best? No. I'm I saying will he be the most popular fighter when Pac and Floyd are gone? Yes.

Is this fair? No it's just the reality of boxing. He comes from a country of 120 million plus 35 million Mex Americans and ALOT of them are boxing crazed fans. He has a unique look. Not boring style, is backed by Oscar.

It's just the way I am seeing things. Floyd and Pac are leaving shortly. I know there are several more talented boxers but I just don't see it happening.

Potentially. He's shown a willingness to take on the tough fights (although he's been lucky to have a couple of close decisions go his way). Needs to learn English well to be a real star.

Canelo will never do a million buys after Floyd and Pac are gone, he seemingly can't make 154 any longer and I don't see him beating the top middleweights...I just don't see him being a ppv star at all...Golden boy should start to look elsewhere and prep another young gunner, Cinnamon ain't it...I don't see any fans other than Hispanic buying his fights...

Nah a lot of blacks and whites know about him. Many bought his ppv. I just don't see anyone else. No one respects broner anymore. Danny maybe. Other than that no one. Everybody hated Floyd 7 years ago and no one expected him to be the 1 ppv star.

He's gotta put on some dominating performances first. Ever since he stepped up his competition he got schooled by Floyd and barely got by Trout and Lara. And a case can be made that both decisions could have gone either way.

He needs that signature win that has EVERYBODY believing he's the truth. Not just Mexicans. A dominating win over GGG would be it. Only time will tell.

Canelo is closer to being the next PPV star then anyone but he will not have the NAME opponents that Floyd and Pac had. He will have a harder time doing 1 mill plus PPVs.

    Oscar struggled against Whitaker
Floyd struggled against Oscar then became the biggest ppb Star.

People were saying he was ducking Lara. Then they said they will respect him of he beat Lara. Now GGG. Everybody is saying GGG, because they know he will probably beat Cotto.

    How do you know?

When Floyd was 24, same age Canelo is right now nobody knew who Pacquiao, Cotto, Hatton, Ortiz, Guerrero, Canelo, Maidana were. Until now.

    Things change

Only thing Floyd struggled with was having the deck stacked against him giving Oscar everything he wanted and fighting in a division he was never completely comfortable with. But any and everyone knows that Floyd clearly won that fight. And I don't believe that Canelo's fights even compare.

Only people I ever saw saying Canelo was ducking anyone are the re****s in this forum. One of the biggest problems with these saw called boxing fans of today. Nobody is willing to wait and see on how something plays out. As soon as a boxer wins one fight there is a small few who scream he's ducking another fighter.

Again I am not saying Canelo is at Floyd level. What I am say ing is that you don't need an undefeated record to the 1 ppv star. I am not saying Canelo is the greatest. I am staying all of things point he will be the most popular fighters when Floyd and Pac man leave

True fans don't turn their back on a fighter for losing a fight. Canelo lost some fans when he fought Floyd, not because he lost, but because of his performance.

Win or lose, Canelo will keep his fanbase if and when he performs admirably vs Golov.

    Agreed .

Canelo clearly lost his last fight and won in a robbery .

Maybe a couple of more fans might've been lost cause of that also

Despite that I Will continue to root for him .
