Roach also coached Hopkins, would you say he has no inside game?

Fighting on the inside isnt exactly a mystery, it's just some styles don't call for it. I'm sure Roach knows how to teach an inside game if his fighters needed it.

No I'm suggesting that roach does have/had boxers who have a good inside game.

    OK, fair enough.

But I'm asking because you pointed out that he coached Hopkins, and I can only think of that happening when Hops fought Super Joe.....and by that time Hops was 40something and far beyond being "coached" by anybody.

Well to be fair, both Amir and Manny were established fighters before Roach got them, so perhaps it isnt any fairer to attribute their style to him than any other boxer

    Silly people.

Mayweather is actually a very offensive fighter. He isn't nearly as defensive as people seem to think :huh

Pac has no inside game because he has never honed it as a skill. Manny doesn't even have a defense. Of course he doesn't have inside fighter.

Inside game implies some ability to hold your presence in one place, Pac doesn't have any presence, his scoring relies on constant stabbing movement. It wins. It works for him. He doesn't need to have an inside game.

You may be correct to a degree, but in Pac and Khan's cases they have both been with Freddy for years now (after YEARS it's likely some of Fred's teachings have time to wear off on them), where as again Bernard was like 44 years old and with Fred for 1 fight.

It is a question that begs answers. One thing I think about is obviously Roach's training methods. Is it that he can't teach sophisticated infighting at all, or is it that he spends more time emphasizing strengths than weaknesses?

Manny, for example, was very raw when Roach got to him. Maybe after teaching him how to slip punches, circle to set up the left hand, develop his right hand, counter-punch, have a tighter guard, etc., there simply wasn't ever enough time or danger to fix Manny's lack of an inside game. Khan is another example; Roach's priority during the rebuilding of Khan's career was to avoid getting knocked the **** out at all costs. Could it be that in teaching him to maximize his height, hold his hands up, circle constantly, and make that jab a real weapon, there was again a reluctance to spend time on the range they were trying to avoid?

I think it might be preference and priority, rather than lack of know-how. Chavez Jr. is coming along nicely as a solid inside fighter. He does have one of the best infighters of all time as his father, and he certainly does help instruct him, but one has to assume Roach has been the one really drilling him on the fundamentals of infighting, which we've seen Jr. improve on so much. Then there's the pure fact that Roach was trained and taught by Eddie Futch for a long long time, who certainly knew how to teach infighting, so it's odd to think Roach simply can't do it. I really don't know which one it is.

At the end of the day, the knowledge isn't as widespread as it used to be, and we're losing the coaches of yesterday that knew what they were doing. Secrets can be rediscovered and passed down, but that doesn't mean they're going to be widely disseminated in a weak era such as ours.

Maybe because the defensive style calls for more inside fighting over other styles? OP a troll.

Because whenever he faces someone, they tend to run.:lol::lol:

How many fighter can you name who tried to fight close quarters with Pac and not end up on the losing side? I hope you don't say Bradley because he tried to be a contortionist and ended up crossing his legs and breaking it.

    wrong, *******.

anytime someone tries to get in close and dig to pacs body, pac freezes up and put this stupid grin on his face while he looks for the ref to break it up.

He has no inside game. None.
