Why can't anyone get past that Klitschko jab?

Haye is not going to be able to outbox Wlad ... and if he gets too aggressive he's going to tire out. I think all this savvy and slickness that Haye believes he can do isn't going to work. He's going to have to take a beating to get inside and he's going to have to outwork Wlad to even get inside. Wlad outweighs Haye by about 30-40 pounds ... I doubt if he'll be able to stop Wlad for throwing his weight around. 4 rounds of being held and leaned on will make Haye very tired.
I see Haye getting knocked out ... the jab is going to be constantly in his face and there will be distance.

For starters, it's easily one of the best P4P jabs in boxing and it's been for quite a while now. He delivers it with snap and speed for a heavyweight + he has great reach.

Most heavyweights have very little mobility and aren't very agile on their feet, therefore they don't give Wlad the kind of movement that could sort of disrupt the quality of his jabs.

Wlad has practically only faced flat footed fighters or with slow movement on their feet, which tremendously increases the effectiveness of his great jab.

That's where David Haye comes in and makes it intriguing as of how he will respond. David definitely has the tools to make that jab less effective. He has the movement, foot speed and hand speed to occasionally counter it.

    1) Wlad has a genuinely good jab. Still and powerful, as well as accurate. His reach also helps quite a bit, that's a long distance to neutralize.

    2) The infighters and pressure fighters he's facing have little to no head movement or lefts of their own to bash their way in. You also have to have pretty good stamina to keep up a consistent infighting attack like that for 12, Peter tried with some success and failed eventually.

    3) The outfighters don't have the skill or speed to feint draw it and then counter it succesfully, or they are just too small like Byrd and Chambers.

4)Neither the infighters or outfighters have the ability or skill to catch his jab and parry it with their right hand. which is well, a rather basic skill that you can see here:

Nice slip and parry into a big counter.

It's a combination of Wlad being good and his competition having pretty much no idea what to do with it. Haye might have some success trying to 'run away' from it and he will probably try to shoulder block it at least, but that won't last long because Haye doesn't last long.

Bobby and weaving, moving the shoulders in angles, stepping inside without getting hit, etc., is difficult to do effectively against Klitschko. Sure, Tyson, Frazier and Dempsey could have done it, but those guys were history's greatest brawlers. To be make a long story short, in recent years there just haven't been heavyweights around who are talented brawler/pressure fighter types. That's why Klitschko's work has been so easy.

Because the jab is a good and accurate one and because there's mainly bums around in the HW division these days, who don't have the skills to get past a good jab. Let's see what Haye will be able to do, but my expectations aren't too high..

A 2004 version of James Toney, who just schooled Evander Holyfield, would have been ablte to get past the jab. It would have been a very interesting fight.

it takes great fitness , mental strength and a good chin to fight that style

Who out of Wlads opponenets has had even two of those three , let alone all of them.

Truly great swarmers are a rare breed , Marciano , Frazier and Tyson.

i believe the reason most fighters stand there and eat the jab is a couple of factors which are not always immediately apparent.

    1. klitschko has extremely powerful fast jab. carries similar force to some heavies right hands. so imagine that hitting you regularly while he can remain at safe distance. that is what a jab is for. keep the distance, range finder, sets up other punches etc.
so i imagine some fighters tense up when they realise how powerful this guy is! they probably think: "****! if that's his jab, what does the right hand feel like?"

    2. wladimir has great foot speed. he can reposition himself rather easily due to height and athleticism. look at the ibragimov fight for example. ibragimov usually the mover due to smaller, lighter size, is actually the fighter who is getting circled and cut off!
constant movement to keep his opponent in the kill box means they dont have many options. they move forward he moves back. they move back, wlad moves forward. sideways, wlad cuts them off. yet at the same time he's gotten way better at not crowding himself. wlad has really gotten the sense of distance and timing down well these days.

    3. patience. wladimir is willing to wait a few rounds for opponents to make a mistake. they can sense this so they try really hard not to do anything stupid. meanwhile he is peppering them with jabs, which tires and demoralises them.

    4. balance. wladimir due to his height advantages can take a long step into the kill box, throw the jab and pull out before they can counter him. if they try to time him they might get lucky once, then wladimir simply makes subtle adjustments so they can't use the same moves again.

    5. plain old fear. just like many dominant champs with natural KO power, opponents dont always stick to their plans once they've been hit. always easier to talk the talk, but not to walk the walk.

Damn I wish Wlad would just stand there and allow himself to get punched. <j/k>

Which of Wlads opponents had the required thoughness, fitness and style to fbe getting past the jab anyway ?

Wlad is a great fighter but every post I see for the hardcore K2 fans seems to suggest there is only guy in the ring.

Wald hasnt even fought a swarmer yet , the closest was Peter who while strong brought no movement , no stamina and questionable mental strength.

Dont get me wrong , I dont know if haye could get inside his jab , or if he'll even try but the idea thats Wlad jab is impassable is balls !
