I think it would be a great match up at 164. It will be a good start for his career, rather than fighting midgets who he will not get a credit of beating.

Thats what I am saying. He needs a high profile lamb to sacrifice to get his stardom going.

we'll see, if he has to wait much longer for a big name to fight him at jr. middle he might change his tune about going up to super. personally no one impresses my at super middle, including ward. I think he would do well against any of them.

I think Sergio does a number on BUTE! BUT! I dont think BUTE can or would drop the extra 4lbs to fight Sergio! and Sergio wont go up to 168!

Pavlik was winning his fight with Sergio until he gassed out in the 9th round and lost four straight rounds because he barely hold up his arms. Unlike Pavlik, Bute has an actual offensive arsenal and doesn't just depend on size to beat people. Bute would murder Martinez.

If become the P4P #1 is really a major objective, Bute, Ward and Froch is the more realistic route he should take. Add Hopkins to that list, he could probably get down to SMW.

Martinez ain't ever fighting Pacquiao and Mayweather. He turned down the Cotto fight earlier this year after Arum wanted Top Rank to handle all of the promotion, and Martinez said he wouldn't fight on a promotion without DiBella. That's not going to change, and Arum promotes Chavez Jr too. He is left with very few options.

Martinez vs Pac/Mayweather will never happen. He was aked about Pirog and he said he doesn't seem Pirog, by beating him, wont give him the #1 P4P which he is right but what about the guy he is fighting now? :patsch Chavez Jr is a fight that won't happen either, ****ing Sulieman and Arum are protecting too well. If I were him, either fight Bute/Ward/Froch at a catchweight of 164lbs or start looking for other low reward/low risk fight for the rest of his career.

I can't believe you're actually buying Arum's nonsense about the Cotto fight. He sure didn't have any problems co-promoting with DiBella for the Pavlik fight, yet suddenly Martinez has to receive the ultimate opponent treatment? The reason that fight isn't happening is coming entirely from Cotto and Top Rank's end.

Also, Martinez could beat the winner of the Super Six and still would be kept behind Mayweather and Pacquiao on most lists unless they actually lost, whereas actually defeating the guys ahead of him on such lists is a surefire to move up (even if it would be less impressive than going to 168 ). Hopkins ain't going to 168 at this point in his career either and the suggestion that he would try to for Martinez is utterly laughable.

Martinez-Pavlik are similar level draws, and I don't remember that fight even being a PPV. Cotto is a PPV fighter and he is one of the most popular fighters around in terms of PPV sales. Arum offered to pay DiBella similar to what HBO would pay him for a Martinez fight and Top Rank would do all the promotion and keep the PPV revenue. I don't see what's too wrong with that. Expecting Top Rank to split the PPV revenue 50-50 when Cotto is the proven PPV draw and Martinez a HBO television fighter is what seems unreasonable. DiBella even said he presented the offer to Martinez, and it was Martinez who declined it.

The reason it's more logical for Martinez to fight Bute, Ward and Froch is because Mayweather and Pacquiao fights will never happen. Fans need to forget about this fantasy. He is two divisions above them and those guys are never going to come to him, even to 154, as much as he cries about it. Martinez needs to be the one making the moves if he wants to overtake them. Resting on his laurels fighting the Barker and Manfredo types is certainly not going to get closer to the P4P #1.

And don't be so quick to dismiss the possibility Hopkins might want to face Martinez. He made a career calling out the best guys in the divisions below him, I don't see how a fight at 168-170 against the P4P #2/3 would not be tempting. I'd think Hopkins would put the super six winner and Bute ahead of Martinez in his priorities because he'd likely get more money, but I would not discount him being willing to meet Martinez as you are.

yes, cause 10cm taller and 20lbs heavier in the night fight is practically the same size.not to mention 5 years younger.you must be a martinez hater to want to see him beat up senseless.why not put him in the ring with vitaly while we're on the subject?
