The only reason I see Ward wanting to fight a big name like Dawson is so that if he wins, he'll be able to feel that he has all the leverage power during negotiations, and that will ultimately kill the fight. (wanting the bigger share of money, having the fight in Oakland, etc)

Calzaghe fought Kessler the no2 at the time before going up if I'm not mistaken. In a perfect world, Ward would fight Bute before going up.

Dont get me wrong, I want Bute vs Ward.

But let's see it from Dawson or HBO perspective. If they wait after may 26th, they loose a lot of bargaining power. So they might both give Ward offers he cant say no...

Calzaghe moved up when RJJ and Hopkins were senior citizens to impress a few drunks yet still kissed canvas.

Ward has a solid division to dominate, there's nothing at light heavyweight compared to Super middleweight.

This. It's ridiculous that Ward is being criticized for accepting a challenge posed by Dawson himself.

Hate to break it to you, but Calzaghe doesn't have a better resume than Ward RIGHT NOW.

How is Ward's resume stronger than Joe's?

Hardly Joe's fault Hopkins and Jones avoided Joe when they were all prime.

Exactly and I am most of the times in the same frequency with VIP member Scar is, Calzaghe just moved up to LHWT and went to the US b'cause Hopkins struggled against Wright in the end stretch and RJJ was washed up already by then. Calzaghe was taking about going to the US ever since he fought Chales Brewer in 2002. The fight ended to be in Cardiff, even Byron Mitchell had to go there, Lacy to the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester and Kessler to the new, beautiful Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, No disrespect to the Pride of Wales / the Italian Dragon Welsh-Sicilian Joe Calzaghe or to dad/trainer Enzo Calzaghe and good management from former manager Frank W, Well, he can even claim that Frank W was the hurdle since he dismissed him and W claimed £1m from the guy, goldigger he was. And remember there was nothing left to do after Kessler and Lacy at SMW while this is the best Division in boxing now alongside with the WW and LWWs like Scar said.

Dawson's always said he can make 168. He probably can. Whether he'll be as effective is another story. Ward's fought and not only beat, but Schooled the best SMWs in the world other than Bute, who was an HBO fighter. Cut the dude some slack. I think Dawson's a much bigger challenge than Bute, who Ward will school badly.

Dawson would be a great name for any fighter to add to his elite wins list. But as another poster pointed out.....styles make fights and Dawson is a very winnable fight for Ward, especially at 168 or 170 catch.

As for Bute beating Froch impressively......could be tough to do in the UK if he don't get the stoppage. Not saying the UK is Germany notorious for robberies, but any tight round where Carl is the agressor and Bute's CPing is not effectively stunning Froch will likely go Carls way. I predict a Bute win, but unless it's a KO it aint gonna be a great win on boxrec.:rofl
From a fans perspective though.....unless Ward wants the notoriety of Mayweahter without the $$$ he needs Bute, win lose or draw.
