Why can't Wladimir's jab-and-grab style work against Fury?

A lot of people said it won't work but I don't see why not. He used that style to Bryant Jennings and Jennings has an 84 inch reach, compared to Wlad's 81 inch reach.

Tyson's reach is 85 inches; virtually the same as Wlad's. And Wlad when he stood next to Fury was nearly the same height.

Fury has no physical advantage; he doesn't hit as hard either, and he's in worse shape.

He won't need it against someone as tall as Fury. (See Wach fight)

He's going to KTFO him with a left hook in first 5 rounds. Grab won't be needed.

Wlad's grabbing tactics are meant for short guys like Povetkin that come ramming head first. They wont be needed against Fury, Wlad will just outbox him and eventually knock him out

Because he grabs to prevent fight from getting close/inside, Fury will be fighting him from the outside so that tactic will no longer be needed, his clinching isn't an offensive move in the way that someone like Ward uses it, he uses it purely for defense against shorter fighters....

Correct, Wlad's clinching is to avoid someone coming in under his shots and exploding upward, this won't happen with Fury. Wlad will ramrod him with jabs and straight rights into oblivion.

But Wlad had 4 inch of height on Jennings, which nullified Jennings reach advantage. Speed and timing is more important when boxers are in roughly the same size. I think Wlad will win the jabs but lose the grabs - especially later on if Fury still standing because of his stamina. Wladimir's got more explosive muscle fibers which means he also lacks in stamina fibers. You simply can't have em all. And even if Wladimir's stronger, Fury weigh more which means Wladimir has to use more of his strength to push Fury around which also means he would drain his strength faster by doing so. And Tyson's got an better inside game on top of that.

And "shape" means nothing really - especially not in heavyweight. Tyson's in great shape, just look at his stamina in later rounds together with his fast hands and good movement. The biggest difference is bodytype and type of muscles fibers between the two of them. And a few pounds of fat won't slow him down noticeable and the weight isn't gonna put him in some "giant weight division" either...

Fury is a poor defensive fighter, he will get peppered by jabs and right hands, so he won't be able to get close enough to use his inside game. On top of that his chin isn't great, I don't think it will hold up against Wlad's right and an occasional left hook.

Unless Fury can win the battle of the jabs and I think he could do as he has better footwork, Fury could dominate the fight. I am not sure if Fury possesses the power, but he certainly has the foot speed.

I have no idea how you can say that Fury has better footwork. Wlad's footwork is absolutely brilliant, look at any fight how he controls range with it.

Fury's footwork is non existent, one of his weakest areas.

Wlad's the better boxer on the outside by far, there's just too much of a technique gap there for Fury to overcome. His best shot is to dog Wlad out on the inside with his size and workrate. There Wlad's jab-and-grab style might still be effective but Fury is a big test of Wlad's physical strength on the inside compared to most opponents. I doubt he'll be able to put the clamps down nearly so easily on Fury there as others. However, I have my doubts that Fury is even going to get there. His defense is pretty poor and his chin has not looked great in previous fights against far lesser punchers.

Look for a really ugly fight. Fury will work to get inside and rough house Wlad. Several things can happen:

    * Fury may get clocked on the way in, especially by WK's left hook.
    * Fury rough housing may take its toll on Wlad, making him suddenly show his age and fall apart. This has a pretty good chance of this happening as I feel Wlad gets very ansty when can't dictate the pace and sit back and box.
    * Fury may end up getting disqualified for his rough housing. The fight is in Germany. Lets not under estimate this happening.

Fury's footspeed is OK but his coordination is great for his size which allows him to move smooth in the ring. I would say this: Fury has better overall footwork but worse footspeed than Klitschko. Wlad's brilliant at "straight line attack and back" with his footwork.
