He's only 25, just now getting some popularity, has GBP backing him. Why put him in with GGG so quickly? He could have made some good money being seasoned up with a few top 10 MW's before taking the GGG fight.

Good question, I'm not sure what Oscar is thinking.

I don't think that Oscar is cashing him out. That's a term that's thrown around as a one size fits all as to the reason a fight like this is happening. Oscar just wants good fights because that's how he makes his money. I am all for it and anything can happen. It is not a gone conclusion that GGG is gonna win. Maybe other promoters will follow suit. It's my belief that the boxining fans are tired of all the excuses why these types of fights are not getting made. It's a good matchup. Power for power. GGG's skills are better but I don't think that Lemieux is in over his head.

They already accidentally cashed Lemieux out several years ago... twice.

    So that's not the case.

Golovkin makes his fans and earns his money by being entertaining. Lemieux makes for a good tango partner.

They might think that it'll be easier to bring him back from a loss to GGG than it was the first time around. Losing to a guys like this isn't the same as losing to Rubio or Alcine.

They can go back to Canada and because of his age, build him up again. They must think that the risk/reward ratio is worth it. A win makes him a contender for some huge fights and they've brought him back from worse losses.

Yeah, I honestly can't see how Lemmy has a chance of winning other than the "punchers' chance". Like I said in another thread, I think De La Hoya isn't only cashing out Lemieux he's also helping GGG become a big ppv star so that GGG-Canelo can become a fight that'd sell millions.

Golovkin opened up as a 20/1 favorite in some books. He's going to steamroll Lemieux. Maybe Oscar and Loeffler had some sort of deal where Oscar would offer up Lemiuex as a sacrificial lamb in exchange for K2 not enforcing Golovkin's mando status.

You have two big punchers, but one guy has more power, a much better chin, and a greater overall skillset. Hopefully it is an entertaining fight while it lasts.

That's not a bad thought at all.

See, this is what is wrong with current thinking.
One loss will not mean a guy has been "cashed out".

He is going to make like $1M. What would he make otherwise? A couple hundred thousand?
And Lemieux has lost twice. It isn't inconceivable that he will lose again in the near future and then a million $ GGG payday is out the window.

The key will be to make sure that he is being closely watched in the ring and doesn't take too much punishment.
The risk is he gets a career altering beatdown.
As long as he is his normal exciting self, decent paydays will still be there for him after a loss to GGG.

    Agree.

Oscar is in cahoots with HBO. And I don't say "cahoots" as in anything shady or frowned upon. Just that Oscar is on the HBO train now. Money. Relationships. Make the world go 'round.

Give Lemieux to HBO against Golovkin and HBO will pay market value or more for some other Golden Boy fighters to get on the network soon. Obvious 1 + 1 = 2.

They are not "cashing out" Lemieux. Lemiuex's only ever beaten one ranked fighter in his life.

Because unlike Al, oscar enjoys throwing his fighters in against fan friendly opposition. Lemuiex, win or lose, gets a TON of respect for taking this, and if he lands one of his dragon punches, could actually pull off the upset.
That being said, I have GGG by stoppage in the 4th....But seriously, good on Goldenboy and Lemiuex for stepping up.
AWESOME FIGHT for as long as it lasts.

Getting a title shot when you are 26 used to be the norm. Only pussies spend their whole career fighting nobodies and protecting their 0. Meanwhile, Lemieux already has two losses, so he has no cherry to protect. He wants to fight the champ, contenders are supposed to be desperate to get a title shot and prove they are the best.

Lemieux is the only middleweight contender who is acting with any sense and clowns are actually criticizing his choice. You guys have gotten so soft and complacent you just expect to be treated like *****es.

I don't think anyone is criticizing Lemieux as much as they're questioning his promoter for making this fight. I hope he's getting a lot of money, because he's almost assured to beat up and lose this fight. Boxing is an unforgiving sport. A loss can really set back your career. And sure, Lemieux will get props from fans now but that doesn't last. Just look at what's happening with Cotto.

This is nothing short of Arm twisting by HBO. They wanted Canelo/Cotto and the step aside fee was Bumlovekin/Lemieux..
