He is thinking he has the leverage right now as GGG really needs an opponent and Canelo really needs a WBC belt, but he doesnt want Canelo to face GGG right away either. (unless the PPV date/money is right) He is thinking HBO really really wants him to deliver, and with the political scene he really needs HBO's wholehearted backing. Quid pro quo. He is thinking DL has enough power and quick agression to maybe pull an upset, and let him make an enormous PPV unification bout at 160 totally in house where he controls the timing. Failing that, maybe DL can at least put GGG through a war and find some flaws or put some miles on him.
That's very simple really. GGG is mandatory to Cotto's belt. Golden Boy needs GGG to agree to let Cotto fight Canelo, and GGG's team probably asked to get some money but also a fight with Lemieux, and without that fight maybe they didn't agree to step aside to let Canelo fight Cotto. Now, best case scenario for Golden Boy, Lemieux wins the fight, and gets the IBF, IBO and WBA belt, and he becomes mandatory to the WBC belt so he'll fight Cotto in case Canelo loses, which in and itself is a money fight for David, but if Canelo wins it's another money fight for him. Worst case scenario, Lemieux gets knocked out by GGG. Golovkin gets another belt, and is mandatory to either Cotto or Canelo. If it's Canelo, that's a potential huge money fight for a unification where his fighter could get all the belts (or lose one). Lemieux is young, just like Canelo, and building him back up wouldn't be that hard, no shame in losing to Golovkin. David probably will get a shot at Canelo eventually, one way or another.
When you get through talking, GGG ain't gave Monroe squat. Monroe finessed those shots. I think that Lemieux can get in some good shots also. Then we will get a look at GGG's real heart.
Plus I think its important that David thinks he can win. He will be paid millions, and if he does win, he will be able to get plenty of HBO dates plus a huge PPV with Canelo and if he wins that then he is the best, and the man at 160 period. I wish their were more fighters like Lemieux who were interested in trying to fight their way to the top even when they have something to lose. Boxing would be a much more popular sport as well.
keyboard warrior. Monroe didn't quit like a b1tch he lived to fight another day. How many times did he get knocked down? 3-4 times? Monroe fought on after being knocked down in a few different rounds. He showed courage and he was simply out classed no reason to continue. What did you want to see you ugly blood thursty ape? Geale quiting against Gg was questionable not Monroe i hope you somehow got the two confused
The problem is with GGG he runs a risk of more than losing. He's crazy enough to stand and trade with GGG, he's gonna get chinned hard. This might be one of those "get the smelling salts" type K.O's.
He'll make good money this fight. probably has a return fight secured by hbo. imagine if the fight does 200k buys. 200k x 60 is around 12 mill. fighters take around 1/2. so 6 mill left to fighters. thats just on ppv alone. imagine live gate...sponsorships etc etc. you are easily looking at 2-3 mill. and thats a conservative estimate of 200k. fight is expected to do 200k-300k. so i'd say with live gate and a higher than 200k...you are looking at 3 mil for DL. hbo fights avg 750k. so he;ll get 750 on a return fight on hbo. thats 4 mil in bank right there. h'd have to fight like 4-5 times on hbo to even make that muhc money. if he beats ggg too...he gets rematch on ppv...and his stock incresases as well. if he loses he just plays gatekeeper and gets those hbo dates for any potential ggg threats. he also can make money off of canelo in future. he needs exposure which only makes a potential canelo fight more lucrative. either way, this fight makes tremendous sense for david.
bottom line this fight is happening cause ggg is potentially bringing in some ppv money now. he's the draw. this should bring guys to the doorstep.
Canelo is a 154 lb. fighter. And Cotto doesn't want to get near GGG. I'm talking VIABLE options you fuking mutt.
Make GGG a PPV fighter by giving him a big and entertaining fight - set up the fight with Canelo. $$$$$
Yeah, I don't think it makes sense.. David probably beats every guy currently ranked in the IBF. The list is ****. GGG is going to ****ing wreck him.
