    I completely agree with the thread. Without catchweights we'd be denied mouthwatering fights that absolutely had to happen, such as Pacquiao-Margarito.

    Likewise, they make fights that would never occur somehow possible. Who could ever have seen Peterson and Matthysse fighting each other without the innovative tool known as the catchweight?

    I think it makes sense in cases like say the winner of the 140 tournament got a fight with Floyd
    They could meet in the middle of 140 and 147 and then the winner is basically the best of both divisions
    But its best avoided anyway there's weight divisions for a reason, at a catchweight a boxer would always have an excuse for losing

    Yeah this is a ******* thread, if you have a 143 catchweight to have a dream fight between say Maidana-Matthysse than yeah that's great. Pacquiao won belts at 145 and 150, you are not a real fan if you don't got a problem with that. By the way Cotto turned down a rematch cause he did not want a catchweight, so you are saying you know more about Cotto's body than him? You *******s make me sick.

    Pacquiao should have went to 140 to fight Juan
    Pacquiao should have fought Cotto at 147
    and Pacquiao shouldn't have fought Margarito period. I knew that's why you made this thread in order to defend your BFF

    I was on the scenes Facebook when the Khan fight was announced at 143 in minutes there were a hundred negative comments but Pacquiao has built the last 6 years of his career on catchweights , real fans know his resume is bull****, he stopped trying a long time ago.

    You don't know how much I agree with this post. The fact that Lalonde dropped Leonard despite being weight drained, leads me to believe that at the full 175 he would have KO/TKO'ed Leonard. But instead he loses his title and some vacant title of a new division...I really dislike catchweights. Plus why couldn't Chavez fight Whitaker at 147??? And Texas really??? NO ONE should ever have to fight in Texas! EVER!!

    He is and so is Hopkins, but catchweights are annoying and just diminish a victory. Too much money in boxing to stop them though. I would like for Lineal Champs to stand their ground from now on and say if you want to fight me for my title then fight at my weight or keep my name out of your mouth. But it's wishful thinking won't happen. I mean look at Dawson, that idiot even offered to drain himself just for a pay day. It's a shame.

    You can make a million excuses as to why Cotto, De La Hoya, Margarito, or Hatton weren't in tip top physical and mental shape but the fact is Pacquiao beat:

    Cotto
    De La Hoya
    Margarito
    Hatton
    Barrera
    MoralesX2
    Shane Mosley

    Deal with it.

    Naw I don't got to deal with ****, cause I'm right , it's my personal opinion, let's be honest you would give him credit for a shot cheater like Margarito and a catchweight how pathetic is that.

    You brought up Margarito in the first place. Even though he cheated, is it not a good victory to see a cheater get beat up like Mosley beat margarito?

    Catchweights are not as bad as you are making them out to be. As the OP said they allow big fights to be made with ease.

    Cotto was not weight drained in the Pacquiao fight. In his previous fight he came at 146 for Clottey. These weight drain claims are because of the hype surrounding the recent mayweather-cotto fight.

    [http://www.boxingnews24.com/2012/05/was-cotto-really-weight-drained-against-pacquiao/]

    =========

    Hatton has always been fluctuating between the welterweight and light welterweight limits leading up to his KO loss to Mayweather. To claim that Pacquiao's victory is illegitimate is to be biased against him as you are.

    =========

    De La Hoya who is frequently cited as being dehydrated in the Pacquiao fight was not a result of the scales but of De La Hoya's own personal choices.

    [http://www.boxingnews24.com/2008/12/is-de-la-hoyas-diet-the-cause-of-his-loss-to-pacquiao/]

    If you analyze the weight (tale of the tape) for the Shane Mosley fight. Both Pacquiao and Mosley made the agreed upon weight and then both rehydrated back to good condition. On the tale of tape for the De La Hoya fight Oscar did not rehydrate himself which is his own fault.

    I was saying how pathetic it was to fight Margarito after Mosley caught him cheating and beat the **** out of him. We can't blindly look at the record we have to say this boxer was shot and,Pacquiao made them drain weight for a payday

    There are 17 weight classes.

    No need for catch weights.

    While I don't think they're the end of the world, they are only used in situations which either benefit one fighter (Pac/Cotto, Williams/Sergio II) or cheat the system with belts (Pac/Margarito, Peterson/Matthysse). And they **** with legitimate rankings which some people, myself included, still take seriously.

    Catch weights suck. Defending them is showing ones' agenda.
