updated my post, forget about margarito I don't think that was one of the victories that makes him an ATG. I look at it as a victory that just keeps Manny active.
If there's a title on the line, then there should be no catchweight. If you want to call yourself the champ of a division limited at a certain weight (say 154), why would you insist on fighting for that title at a lower weight? Answer: because you aren't the best at that weight limit and feel you would be beaten if the opponent came in at the actual limit. In other words, you want to be the champ of a division you're too small for without fighting anyone at that division's limit. It's bull****, though catchweights are great if there's no title on the line.
I really don't care about catchweights. Two fighters agree to a certain weight then give 'er down. It's not like the weight divisions in boxing aren't some arbitrary number anyway, I mean did they do studies that say body types should weigh 154, 160 etc etc.
haha true the weight class limits are arbitrary numbers. Why is the welterweight limit 147? They just randomly chose it!
I think catch wieghts are acceptable today because of no same day weigh-in fights. Many fighters are able to manage their wieghts well to fight at different divisions.
