Joshua Clottey has partly blamed his defeat to Manny Pacquiao in the WBO welter weight bout on a meal he ate hours before the bout.

Clottey was less than impressive on the night and was hugely overwhelmed by the Philippine who was devastating with his punches from start to finish.

The Ghanaian boxer shortly after his defeat apologized to Ghanaians for failing to dethrone the undisputed welter weight champion but appears to have diagnosed the reason for his defeat.

Speaking to Joy News, the 32 year old Ghanaian boxer said he was not in the right frame of mind after suffering multiple stomach upsets and diarrhea prior to the bout.

He suspected an ingredient used in preparing local Ghanaian dish- Banku and Okro stew he ordered to be prepared for him to eat as possible cause for the diarrhea.

“When I ate after the weighing I was ‘running’; the midnight I went to toilet almost like four times; in the morning I went to toilet almost like three times; when we went to the dressing room I went to toilet like three times,” he explained.

He said the heavy dose of diarrhea weakened him ahead of the bout and that partly contributed to his defeat.

He has promised to make a swift comeback to glory.

Props to Pacquiao, he totally dominated the fight. Pac's high workrate and Clottey's low work rate(even for Clottey) was the difference.

Even though Clottey landed the cleaner punches(Pac's and Clottey's faces can bear testament), Pac's gameplan ensured Clottey stayed on the defensive most of the time and didn't get the opportunity to do enough damage to sway the fight.

    Comments.

Could be true; he did seem particularly under-performing in the Pac fight.

On the other hand, it sounds a shade too much like ODLH's "Oysters" story.

I think he was paid to lose the fight plain and simple If had diarrhea he wouldn’t have being dancing with that much energy the guy didn’t even try to win.

What could he have done? Said he couldn't fight and lose the biggest payday of his life? No. He sucked it in and tried his best. Even at 100% it will have been hard for him.

If he really had that severe a diarrhea, then he did do well to at least last the whole 12 rounds without taking punishment.

Because though Clottey did clearly lose, he caused more damage to Pac than the other way round. He was outworked but not beaten up like Cotto, Hatton, de la Hoya or Diaz.

Imagine if he really did have diarrhea, what all that punishment to the body must have felt like. Damn.

Clottey should have shitting from round 1 through 12 if he had this diarrhea. he has been pummelled in the midsection all night long. He's just afraid to trade punches with pacman coz he cant fight a moving guy.

I agree completely. If I had diarrhea like he said he did and I got hit to the body that much, the fight would have been stopped because I would have been running to the bathroom. Just a lame excuse for a lame performance.

It's difficult to mount an offensive if punches coming at you at roughly one punch every 1.8 seconds. :D
