They were both the top two 140 pounders for a while. They even both fought at 147 the same.time. Did one fighter duck the other?? Was it ever discussed? Would have been a big money fight, both were NAMES

At that time that was one of the most debatable fight of who was the better fighter at that time. I remember at that time there was a lot of Hatton fans to bad that fight was never materialized, at 140 lbs would had been a great fight. At 147 Cotto would had been a clear favorite.

when cotto and hatton were at 140 ricky was goin after kostya and had w.a.r.r.e.n as his promoter so they were goin down the IBF route

when hatton went to unify the division in 2006 after beating kostya, cotto had already moved upto 147

i suppose there was a very brief moment in late 2005 when the fight could of happened....if i was ricky id of jumped at the chance then cos cotto was drained and really weak at the weight by then and hed of stood a realy good chance... 147 cotto brutalises hatton though

    Thread title hurt my brain.

Hatton was fighting Tszyu when Cotto was fixing to move up to 147 for bigger fights, Cotto was struggling with Torres and having trouble with weight. Hatton then struggled with Collazo at 147, moved back down, and only came up for the Mayweather money fight.

I think Hattons UK career says it all.

Cotto was WBO champ and at the same time Hatton was WBU fighting c level fighters.

Cotto was better than anybody Hatton beat at 140.

    Cotto just did everything better.

@ 140, Hatton might've dropped him early but wouldn't have remained the pocket general for long.

They would've combined to set CompuBox body punching records. :yep

Cotto was drained to hell at 140 he was the better more rounded fighter but at Hattons best weight i think the relentless pressure might have gotten to cotto eventually because his body just wouldnt have had the energy to perform

 Ya, I watched the fight. Guy was washed up as **** and even quit on his stool because he didn't have it anymore. Larry Holmes fought exactly the same in the Tyson fight.. was he not washed? :think
