Why come is UKs bravest fighter (Amir Khan) not respected by his countryman?

He is getting better doesn't give it the barry as much as he used to.seems to have grown up and you can't knock his bottle taking on the best fighters win or lose .brook could do with some of Khans bottle.

He just hypes himself up too much for me, best wins are Alexander (which now doesn't look a great win) and maidiana who isn't elite.

Also should have avenged the Prescott k.o back in the day and didn't.

Massive credit for his amateur achievements. But wants to fight and break America, hasn't much care for the uk fans, and he still hasn't made it big.

    However canelo win changes that.

Khan gets too much respect in the UK, especially considering that he has long abandoned the UK and has based himself in the USA.

Also, he's not as good as he advertises himself to be.

fraduley was a lot worse than khan. never got anywhere, promised anything. If that was someone else selling you something you'd sue them for fraud.

He's a deluded fraud with as Glass Jaw, a mouth that writes cheques his Glass Jaw can't cash.

If he had any stones he would have fought Brook, or would have rematched any of his embarrassing losses.

In fact he goes one futher, whenever he loses he leaves the division. Prescott - moves to 140. Garcia moves to 147.

Unfortunately Garcia has followed him to 147 and also Brook is around, so what's Khan done? He's pre-empted these losses by moving out of the division already before he has even had to fight them :rofl:rofl:rofl

Khan is a joke, a Glass Jawed joke and he will NEVER have the respect of the British or American public.

Because he hasn't beat any elite fighters but chat's like hes on mayweather level. If he beats canelo then he can be talked about in same sentence as the likes of mayweather legitimately. BTW i am a big khan fan anyway i just think he needs to step up and fight the very best now, i also think he could just now be coming into his peak.

Race and religion play a part, as other's have said. His attitude and losing at the wrong time is another, bigger, reason. Particularly amongst the more hardcore followers of boxing.

Khan was on the cusp of becoming a real star in the sport before the Peterson loss. He was big in the uk, selling out 10-20k stadiums and he was starting to make inroads into the American market. Many people were saying he had P4P potential. He then loses two consecutive fights. A defeat in modern day boxing is incredibly damaging and Khan lost two fights on the bounce. Add in the fact that the Garcia fight again highlighted his weak chin. A weak chin is a source of belittlement in the boxing world. I personally just see it as adding an extra layer of excitement as the owner of said weak chin could get KO'd, but, for some reason, it turns certain fans off a fighter. These factors pretty much ended the buzz around Khan in America and dented a noticeable portion of his UK popularity.

Khan could have rebounded. As the OP states, he is usually in good fights. Most true boxing fans, even some casuals, can forgive losses if you are in good fights (Micky Ward being one of numerous examples). However, since then, Khan's actions and choices inside and outside of the ring have been questionable. Safe fights against less than stellar opposition whilst practically begging for a Mayweather/Pac fight. Instead of earning his shot he came across like he felt that he was entitled to it. Khan had the chance to fight good fighters and get a legitimate shot at the elite. Instead he has wasted his best years by fighting just five times in four years and doing his best to not suffer another loss in the off chance that Floyd or Pac throw him a bone.

Khan was a real warrior. He had a good style and you felt like he was the type of fighter who would fight anyone. Look at the Maidana fight. The guy gets called chinny so he goes and fights a heavy handed, rough house fighter in Maidana. Unfortunately, since the Garcia loss he has lost his risk taking sense. He has instead took the path of least resistance to get his big money fight.

To further compound matters, the nonsense he has talked over the last four years hasn't helped. Saying he has the best chance to beat Mayweather. Saying Brook doesn't deserve a shot at him whilst saying he deserves the Floyd fight and completely failing to see the irony in that.

His race will lose him a few British fans, just the way it is. He has a shaky chin, that loses him some fickle fans who only like to suppor the best. But mostly its his mouth, im a fan but he has had so much to say over the years and a good percentage of what he says is utter bollox. Gets very annoying.

I don't know about his race and faith. I had a temporary summer job in a depot when he fought in the Olympics and literally everyone stopped what they were doing to watch him on the canteen television in the final. We all cheered him on and looked forward to his professional career.

I think maybe he went off the radar in Britain somewhat by having a lot of fights in America and - obviously - demanding a fight with Floyd or Manny while remaining inactive for long periods wasn't a great help. It did make him seem like someone with an inflated sense of his own importance. Anyway, I hope he does well against Canelo.
