Why Cortez took a point

Should have clocked him for the way he interfered in the 10th round. :yep The elbow was intended for Cortez, a sort of "get off me" elbow.

 

Yeah it was pretty clear the ref was a khunt (khan fan)

 

Well, it may have been a cheap shot (or attempt rather) but it wasn't against the rules. Had Maidana landed the shot, it would have been perfectly legal. Just like if Khan had landed the shots he attempted on Maidana when Marcos was ad******g his trunks. It's funny, because Khan didn't seem to mind the "cheap shots" from Maidana because he tried to touch gloves with him two more times later in the fight, both of which Marcos refused to acknowledge.

 

Cortez acted on emotion, Which in turn makes him a "Garbage" ref.
He prob feels like **** about it now...

Maidana is that dude. I wish he woulda caught cortez on the face.

 

an elbow can create a cut which would ruin that ****ing great boxing match. glad cortez penalised maidana for his dirty fighting.

Could be, but as a fan of niether, i think that was a BS move. point deduction at that time of the round, which i thought marcos was controlling might of cost him that round, cause after that khan began to take control of the round, an the fight till the 7th (point deduction happen in the 5th), so that could of been a two point swing (one the point lost, an won for not winning the round). Also, i saw 3 breaks in rd 10 that no question saved khan from more blows, one he was very unpertected, his whole body was turned around, an the punches would not of had a chance to be blocked, an it would of been legal. None of those breaks were justified

Yes these could of changed the out come, would of it? thanks to cortez the world will never know

 

I disagree, that was some blatent bull****.

I still think Cortez is the worst ref out there that gets big fights.

 

Maidana did the right thing, I hate when guys constantly try to touch gloves. Its a fight not a sparring session.

 

1. Maidana is a dirty fighter, Cortez knows this and as a ref going into a fight with a dirty fighter, he needs to make sure he is very careful.
2. Maidana did not try to elbow once but TWICE. Watch the clip again. After he failed to do it once, THEN he tried twice and thats when it hit Cortez.

To fighters like that, a point deduction is the only warning they'll understand. Otherwise they'll do it again.

 

Cortez took a point for the same reason he took a point away from Hatton for hitting a ring rope! He was protecting Khan like he did Void. El Crooko Cortez!

 

I don't think it was a cheap shot. He was just establishing the fact that he was there to fight and not to make friends. More of a mental strategy is you ask me.

 

Perhaps if there was a camera in a back alley we could know the truth.......

 

He did, on the slo-mo Cortez looked like he was about to scream in pain lol... I think he just had a flare of temper and said '**** this guy!' and took the point for hurting him.
