Styles make fights!!! Is Cotto a better boxer? Yes Is he a stronger pucher? I surmise to say yes Is he more agile with more ring intelligence? Yes However, styles make fights. If you remember Marciano....most of his oponents were much better boxers and punchers....however, Marciano would smother them and smother them and punch and punch. He could also take quite a punch ( good thing fights weren't stopped on cuts too easily in those days ) I fear if the rematch was immediate....it would be the same outcome. However, let Margie have about 3 blow for blow wars that go the distance.....then I believe Cotto can continue the schooling lesson that he started in the first 5 rounds. I like Cotto.....but you have to tip your hat to Margarito's accomplishment.
Cotto isn't mentally good enough to beat Margarito. He has the skill and talent, but he just isnt mentally good enough to make it happen. I see the same result in a rematch.
Margarito has already been through alot of wars and taken alot of punches. He's already slowed down quite a bit, and Cotto still couldn't take it. If Margarito slows down anymore he'll need to retire. Cotto already had his chance at a shopworn Margarito.
Cotto couldn't execute his gameplan for 6 rounds, he'll never manage it over 12 unless Margo gets shop worn real quick.
I believe Margo has his number because Cotto knows no matter what he throws at him he's just going to take it and keep coming and pounding him. Mentally that is a heartbreaker. Cotto must have thought "What have they put me in with? A machine" As my old fella would say, he could have hit him with his stool and he'd have kept coming.
