I know Pavlik is bigger(so was Williams)have heavy hands(sa has Williams)and has a big heart. But when pavlik fought and lost to B-Hosp everybody could see a very unidimensional fighter with no answers against somebody who can box. Martinez isnt gonna go forward careless like Miranda did,and doesnt lack stamina like taylor..he can move,he can punch and he will stay all night throwing from every angle. Im not saying Martinez is gonna win for sure, but i give him a very good chance against Pavlik.
Martinez has a sizable speed advantage and moves around possibly too much for Pavlik to deal with. Pavlik is still no slouch but he's got a lot to prove the way his career has been going lately.
Martinez is a light middleweight who hasn't mixed it with stellar opposition for most of his career at lighht middleweight and welterweight and has yet to win a world title fight in his career, despite being 35 and having had 48 fights. The more pertinent question is 'why on Earth would you think he can beat the linear middleweight champion'?
For your assesment to be true it would require martinez to come inside and win the rounds. When that happens he has openly showed us that he gets hit, alot, and quite frequently as showed in the williams fight by overhand rights. One of Pavliks favorite weapons. Pavlik aint no williams, he punches to hurt, not score. Martinez is going to feel and eat alot more than you think he is. Pavlik Ko's him within 8
Paul gave up his height. Paul did not "man up on dem punches" as his corner implored. Paul has heavy hands? Did you even watch that fight? Serious question. At some point Martinez has to get into range. Kelly uses the left to shepherd him into the right. If Martinez stays inside then he just gets out muscled by the bigger guy. This one isn't too hard to figure out. Martinez is not faster than Taylor 'was'. He has a different style but in the end he doesn't have the power to gain Kelly's respect. Watch for Martinez to show stamina problems if the fight goes long enough. Power takes a lot more effort to avoid and it takes away a lot when it isn't avoided.
I think Taylor has more movement a bigger punch and throws from every angle in comparison to Martinez ! ...going into the first fight Taylor had two years of being at his best two wins against Hopkins and a creditable draw against Wright ... so Martinez doesnt offer anything different for pavlik... Pavlik by KO !!
Matinez does not seem to fight well on the inside. I think he will look to counter and move around a bit on Pavlik. Hopkins was able to wrestle and punch on the inside. and then punch on the outside . giving Pavlik too much to occupy himself with. I am not sure Martinez can occupy Pavlik on the inside. And if he cannot. then he may have a problem dealing with Pavliks long right hands from range.
If Pavlik can convincingly beat Martinez then the comments of 1-dimensional should stop. Regarding Pavlik v Hopkins, whatever happened with the claims of Pavlik being sick before the fight? And that being part of the reason why Williams-Pavlik fell through? That Loew was not going to let Pavlik in the ring again until he was completely healthy.
Agreed. I Simply say, Sergio Martinez has the physical ability to duplicate and expand on the flaws bernard exposed in pavlik.
Again, If Pavlik can win convincingly then the comments of being 1-dimensional should stop. People that wanted Pavlik to lose against Hopkins weren't going to lend any credence to the claims of him having bronchitis prior to the fight. So a clear victory should lend credence to it.
Because speed kills, match that with martinez's accuracy and you have a winning combination over pavlik. The only thing that can change the outcome is whether martinez can take pavliks power.
Taylor had a bigger punch at 160(I think anyways), but, interestingly, I've never heard anyone really call him much of a mover. :think
