Speed, timing, accuracy and he was just plain strong. His style which used his legs for power was perfect for him. He dipped down before he threw the right hand and sprung up and rammed into a guy's chin.
A paradoxical mixture of ultimate self-belief AND self-doubt. But seriously, I don't think he is super-elite in punching power; WHAT he did do well is punch placement (ie. combinations) and the foot & hand-speed advantage which allowed him to hit without being hit (at least in the prime years). And blah blah blah, the usual torque story --> he was built like AND threw like the He-man action figure (look at the uppercuts he landed on poor Marvis Frazier) :rofl The purest answer yet! :happy The Tyson Combo! "Eat this, Jose!"
Seems like your the only guy on here with a brain. This is just as stupid as asking....why is Vtali so tall, Why is Lennox black, why does Tyson punch so hard
He was born a puncher. It was something that was in him when he first stepped foot in the gym. Then Cus D'Amato and Kev Rooney polished his technique and made him a monstah.
Some people just have "it".. it doesn't necessarily mean you need to have huge legs. Julian Jackson Gerald McClellan Nigel Benn Really, the list goes on and on and on and on.. these people were all born with the ability to thump.
I think Tyson punched harder when he was leaner and not quite so bulky. After prison, whether it was from weights or steroids or whatever, Tyson was bulkier and more ripped looking, but he didn't have the same pop in his punches.
Physics F=MA Tyson was damn fast for a heavyweight Came in close Used all his body with a great technique & explosive power
