Gomez was able to take Manfredo's and Brinkley's punches, two guys that are now fighting at SMW. Why couldn't he take Cotto's shots ?
Does Cotto hit harder than Brinkley and Manfredo ? Or was Gomez weight-drained ?

Cotto is probably not as heavy handed as Manfredo but hits alot cleaner. And Cotto makes it a point to not hit elbows when he throws. Just watch for it. His body work lands clean most of the time. And so do his head shots.

Gomez if anything we'd have expected to go the distance. And he probably would have had the doctor not stepped in. But yea he was getting drilled by clean shots and not offering much of anything back. Was a bad position for Gomez to be in.

Timing and Speed. Cotto is peaking as a world class fighter. Top 5 in the world p4p. Cotto is a bad man, Margarito will be able to hurt him but Cotto is gonna use footwork, and speed, timing, and a jab to set up tearing that body to shreads. I think he wins a comfortable UD, might even score a KD late on Tony.

Exactly, its about timing, speed and technique. Cotto is a better calibre fighter then Manfredo.

It was that he was landing clean and flush. Same with Mayweather. Its not all about power but just landing right on the button over and over will take a toll on anybody. Look at what Floyd did to baldomir's face in round 1. He looked like an elephant man and Floyd by far did not really kick his ass as bad as Cotto beat Gomez. I knew Cotto would stop him early. Gomez was not in the same league and Cotto knew that in the first 30 seconds of the fight.

It's just crazy how accurate Cotto can be with his punches..plus he doesn't get enough credit for his speed...some of the combinations that he threw tonight looked to be pretty damn quick...was it his solely his speed or that Gomez is that slow??

He was catching Gomez with perfectly timed shots that he didn't see coming and landed flush, simple as that. A shot you don't see coming from an average puncher will cause more damage than a punch you do see coming from a big hitter.

Are you smoking weed? Do you honestly believe that he could have gone the distance? Cotto was basically in a sparring session. How often did he hurt him and then step back and allow him to recover? Then, when he hit with intent...Gomez wilted visibly....then Cotto relented again.

    It was a sparring session!!

Yes, he does hit harder then both of them. Just because they are bigger does not mean they hit harder. Cotto's punching technique is superior to Manfredo and Brinkley.

I'm not saying he wouldn't have been hurt. I'm just saying Gomez would have gone on life or death. He would not have quit.
