See, I got to think that Tyson coming in with the speed and ferocity he did and landing with that power had something to do with it.

As Tyson himself said "Everyone have a plan until they get hit in the face".

A younger Spinks had problems with the pressure of old Holmes. I don't give him much chance of beating Tyson at his best no matter his state of mind at the bell, to put it mildly.

Spinks would never evade peak Tyson. He's an ex 175'ers worst nightmare.

Yes. I can't see he had the fire power to keep Tyson honest or the speed and slickness needed.

This quote sounds like it came after their second fight. Correct?

    Spinks beating Tyson?!

    LOL

54 year old Tyson of today would crush prime Spinks

Spinks would never beat any Tyson ever

Mike Tyson has his number and would have always beaten him had They fought 10000000000 times.
Just saying in a fantasy world, where spinks was mentally strong and unafraid, he would have posed a real challenge.

Spot on Kashmir. Floyd's complex psychology meant he had to meet Liston like the little kid against the school bully.

Spinks - one of the greatest LHWs of all time - was only mentally strong in a fantasy world? Ffs.

In all these scenarios you have one fighter who “knows” he’s in the other mans head.

Yeah Floyd could get up for good fighters in non title fights...he just couldn’t psychologically get up for the actual title fights no more. He fought Ali in a non title fight and was way more competitive than first time without the world championship pressure. Even In his very last fight he was able to do better.

And yes, Liston and Ali were by far the best men he ever fought and that has a lot to do with losing to them so emphatically for the title, but you can lose a fight and do yourself justice. Floyd was good enough to do that. His effort in the non title fight with Ali shows this. But I think he had checked out mentally for the responsibility of being heavyweight champion after the Ingo fights. Mentally he emptied the barrel on that series. The championship was too much of a mental hurdle after then. Subconsciously he had expended himself mentally regaining the title once already.

To me this is the explanation for the question of this thread. Subconsciously he was no longer committed to being the champion.

Evander never made 175 in the pro's.

I'm picturing longer term light heavies like Spinks, Charles, Moore etc.

Evander was a light heavy with “modern help”.
