A lot of people in recent generations eat up the reality TV persona. It's simple entertainment for simple people. They can relate to the complete lack of humility and self respect because they themselves have no humility or self respect. Mix that with a little victimhood, you have a recipe to win a lot of supporters. Look how well it's worked for Mayweather. It's actually quite brilliant. It's a strange phenomenon here in the United States. We have certain people who purposely act like total asshats...then they, or their fanbase, get defensive when they get criticism due to acting like an asshat. Even worse, the race card will be played. Of course this leads to people becoming apathetic when it comes to actual racism. What these simple folk fail to understand is respect breeds respect. No one is going to respect a person and his/her accomplishments if they clearly have no respect for themselves, or in this case, the fight game, their opponents, and those who came before them.
