Simple as that really? Seems odd that it wouldn't be on a weekend.

Hagler and Hearns fought on a Monday night

I think Leonard and Hagler fought on a Thursday night

it really didn't matter about the date,i don't kno if you were alive back then.it was talked about weeks before on t.v. and radio,it was tha fight of the centry.after each getting 2.5 mil ali said he and joe were ripped off i believe jack kent cook put up the money for the fight.

Because boxing was much more popular back then, it could come on any night and people would watch.

Now its resorted to mainly Fri/Sat

By the way i wasnt alive then, this is just my opinion :)

Trivia if Ali and fraier had held out for a % instead of a fixed fee they would of earned 9 million dollars in 1971.

I reckon that's about spot on. No matter what night it was on,a big fight would attract.

Because the FOTC was soooo big and important that it could be held on ANY night and be the phenomenon that it was...also, like a post before me, boxing was a far more popular sport back then, due in major part to it's being more familiar to the public, via free tv, esp.
