why did Arturo Gatti get inducted ahead of Prince Naseem?

And Gatti is discussed for his life and death battles with average fighters and getting some of the worst beatings in the world when he actually fought the elite.

As a non participant and it was richly deserved given he brought more kids to the sport over a 10 or 12 year period than any fighter.
Should Gatti go in as a first ballot in the same way SRL,Duran and Hearns did?

There are other that deserve to be in Wilfredo Vazquez too. but Gatti give us a great moment in boxing, unforgettable fights and turn a lot of people into boxing fans. That's why He get in first.

 

Gatti was in multiple Fight of the Year fights and was a yearly candidate. His record wasn't the greatest, but his fame was undeniable.

Mayweather's first PPV was against Gatti because Gatti was a huge draw. That's how big Gatti was.

Naseem got blasted out on HBO and the world was done with him. His act was stale and we all saw the ass kicking we wanted to see. Nothing more to do, go home now. And Nas disappeared.

 

If we're going the full hog with the fame game, Hamed's status in the UK and Arab world was considerably greater than Gatti's relative standing in North America. Hamed was a household name from early in his pro career, commanding huge viewing figures on terrestrial television, before moving onto being one of the first consistent PPV attractions in the UK. He made a huge impact on the sport in this country, and was an inspiration to many of the current British fighters. Even casual fans still talk about him to this very day.

I don't have a problem with Gatti being inducted, but all of the arguments for him being in there have gaping holes in them.

 

if Naz was an exposed hypejob what does that make Gatti who took more than one ass whooping by fighters not nearly as great as Barrera?

i like gatti. ive got no problem with him being inducted. but him getting inducted before hamed? on what basis?

on their resumes naz was the man at featherweight for years and shouldve been the lineal champ if not for politics b/w the belts. was gatti # 1 at jww? ww? lw? sfw?

and for the ppl that care about these sorts of things - money and popularity - naz made bigger money and had a wayyyy bigger following than gatti.

 

Who's debating that? No one. The reasons I gave in my first post are more than justifiable for his admission into the HOF. Hamed belongs there too. But its no disgrace for gatti to go in first. Like in other sports....sometimes personality traits, or personal bias from the voters hurt an atheletes chances. It won't forever in Hamed's case. Gatti belongs there not because of his resume, or ability, but because of his stigma. Dying tragically before your time also helps accelerate your admission I'm sure, since he probably isn't the prototypical first ballot type. But he belongs regardless.
