Would love him to jump on that GGG-Canelo card and school Spike again. Surely they couldn’t ignore him then...
He became overrated because he was so underrated to start with, same with Fury post Klitschko. He’s a very good fighter Billy Joe but I don’t think he’s elite like Canelo and Golovkin.
GGG had a deal in place with BJS for August if the Canelo fight didn't happen it seems, so I don't think it's a case of them being afraid to go near him. Well, maybe GBP would be.
Saunders has been a bit special since he was a kid, a real top quality boxer. But like so man of these ‘gypsy’ fighting men, he lacks the discipline, desire and possibly intelligence outside the ring. I think he’s basically done now and just looking for a cash out payday. Even so, I still think he’d of given GGG a nightmare for 4-5 rounds
File alongside his pal Tyson Fury... 1 top fight (maybe 2)and suddenly is Elite, if not best at weight by a mile.... In fact that Lemeuix fight was very similar to Fury v Vlad
Would disagree with your last point. Totally different fights. Fury nicked every round with that he won against Wlad with the odd punch or two and hardly flung a punch in a snoozer. Saunders totally schooled and embarrassed Lemieux from start to finish and beat him up in the process. Aggression and boxing ability in what was a very enjoyable fight.
He became overrated when he went life and death with the GREENEST version of young Chris possible and eeked out a dubious split. This was of course the novice youngsters first ever attempt at twelve rounds. That win has aged like a fine wine and stands head and shoulders BJS best win moreso since young Chris retired the consensus #1 at 168lbs in the process of ripping his arm clean out its socket in a brutal war well above his best weight. Let the record state your honour that today’s version of young Christopher destroys both in any rematch.
He's left his family to live in another fighter's attic miles from home. That doesn't suggest he lacks discipline, desire and intelligence. His last fight was his best career performance. That doesn't suggest he's done.
It was just the STYLE he employed vs lemieux. Hardcores love a good defensive performance, slick skills. It was a good performance but its one thing doing that to a donut like lemieux, quite another to replicate it vs a skilled elite level fighter, we will see one day if he can or not.
