Why did Broner move up to WW so quickly at the age of 23.

I dont think he had troubles making weight till after Paulie, he was weighing in at 134 before he moved up. He probably got lazy, becuase he thought that Paulie was a piece of cake, and the dude couldnt hurt him.

Garcia really fked Broner over with Maidana, Maidana was a different animal against Floyd/Broner.

Not in your opening post you didn't.

Anyway it's up Broner and his team and they probably did it in the pursuit of bigger names, bigger pay days and the hope of building him into a credible Maywether or Pacquiao opponent, because that is where the money is. They wanted to build up the next cash cow. It didn't pan out, of course.

Personally I think he went up far too quickly and I also think they had too much faith in him.

Broner is pretty decent, but he's no Floyd Mayweather, their styles and abilities are quite different, I've never really understood the comparison.

The comparison is due to their athleticism. Broner has extremely fast hands when he throws, you can't deny this. IQ wise obviously he was never close to Floyd, and he's not a good counter puncher so in that sense he's not similar at all. My post wasn't comparing their styles at all, I was simply comparing 2 young stars with a lot of potential, pryor fights nothing like either of them too.

And you're right I thought I put pryor in my first post, I haven't slept in over 24 hours so I do apologize :good.

He isn't dedicated enough to make the weight and improve on his obvious flaws and over-estimates his own ability, thinking it'd be easy to jump to welterweight. His team don't seem to be up to much either and seem to be 'yes men.' Broner wanted a quick payday by moving up to face pillow-fists, past it Malinaggi.

His team didn't even learn their lesson when putting him in with Porter, after he got humiliated against a similar style brawler in Maidana and has looked like **** ever since at 140. It's a mix of bad management and lack of dedication on Broner's part.

it's a shame aint it, i dont think anyone even the haters can deny broner's hand speed, and overall athleticism, his boxing IQ is just terribly low. He's bad at countering, he gets befuddled a lot when his opponents throw a lot, which goes back to countering he doesn't throw back.

    No worries. :good

I think Broner is pretty good (pretty unpleasant, but pretty good), but he was never going to be great. However he's surely compromised himself by skipping divisions and moving up too quickly. He'll never get back down in weight now and he's always going to struggle with the bigger guys who are world class.

I can only guess that they did it in pursuit of bigger money and greater fame.

In a strange way it may have worked, it is probable that he made far more money in the Malignaggi, Maidana and Porter fights than he could ever have hoped for in the lower divisions, where, for all we know he may also have ended up losing before the big bucks ever came, who knows?

Broner is rich and famous, now and I'm sure that is all they ever really cared about.

Do you know his paydays for those fights? They arent actually huge draws, and after taxes, his lifestyle and all his kids does he even have the money to live the rest of his life if he retired today?
I get your point though, broner is more interested in being a celebrity than a boxer.

Not really a shame, just the way it is. If he had been dedicated he could have carved out a good run at lightweight and learned some of how to fight off the back foot, move his feet, up his workrate and been a more rounded fighter moving up to light-welterweight right about now. As it is I couldn't care less about him really as he brought the losses on himself by being stupid.

ive posted similar sentiments on this subject many times after he lost to maidana......the whole thing was a rush job....but i wouldnt doubt broner and his people were pushing it ......

i compared it to a pitcher in baseball...a guy like daniel bard with the red sox....guy was drafted as a starter in the 1st round....he looked bad as a starter in the minors....the red sox converted him to a reliever in which he was regularly hitting 98/99 with ease and was very successful......then they tried to make him a starter again....im not entirely sure who was behind it.....the sox could have used another good starter at that point....but also the thinking was bard wanted/was chasing a starters contract......and he never recovered and dropped off the face of the earth

The problem is not only did he rush it but he clearly didnt take Maidana seriously. Do you remember the Floyd/Canelo 24/7? Broner was fat as hell, dude clearly didnt keep in shape. What boxers at the age of 24 stays this out of shape a couple months before a huge fight?
    Good comparison though :good.

    I don't know actually.

I assume they were by far his biggest paydays and I also assume that at this point he is a millionaire or close to it. I maybe wrong.

I'm sure that Broner and his team believed he would win these fights and if only he had then he would surely be in line for the very big paydays now. Probably won't happen for him now, we may already have seen the best he has to offer.

I'm sure Broner has already earned enough to make himself financially secure if he handles it right. But it rarely works out for boxers, and usually for the reasons you have mentioned, lifestyle, kids, cars, taxes, etc. Then there's the hangers on, the poor investments, the bad advice.

Broner will probably end up skint, which is a shame, I guess, but who knows? Someone might be looking out for him, help him squirrel some of it away for the future.

Truth is I don't know much about it, for the most part I'm only ever interested in watching these guys fight. :bbb
