Bareknuckle boxing champ Joe Savage? He called them out several times?

Neither would fight a dangerous white challenger, they drew the colour line.

Savage actually threw that fight. Bert Cooper would only agree to fight him if he threw their first fight, then they'd fight for real in the rematch, however Cooper backed out and refused to fight him for real, and since the deal was so shady and unofficial in the first place, Savage had no other option, and it was impossible for him to get his title shot, since people all dismissed because of the dive he took.

This. Bert was completely crazy outside of the ring. When I used to visit family in Pittsburgh in the early 90’s I seen Bert knock a bunch of drug dealers senseles in front of liquor stores and gas stations. It’s a miracle he didn’t suffer any retaliation.

If Holyfield was his drug dealer he wouldnt have beaten up Holyfield.
