Bute is still a very good fighter.... But he CHOKED...

Happens in every sport, and happens to most people one time or another in their lives. Lets see what he has left before we call him a "bum" :patsch

First off, he has a glass jaw. It seems like once he's hurt, he is never able to recover.

Second, the guy has no inside game. I doubt he has had much training in this department.

Third, he seldom uses the jab. He could've kept Froch at bay a little better had he thrown some hard jabs and follow up with the left. Jab is both used as offense and defense.

Fourth, the guy has bad defense. When he's getting attacked, he just stands there and covers up ala Jt. He might've been able to get Froch's respect had he been able to counter Froch with a flush upper cut.

I can see a lot of similarities between Bute and Amir Khan in that there are certain styles that they can box circles around yet you feel big punchers will always cause them problems.

Bute would do much better against Dirrell and Ward because neither of them have the power or the ability to headhunt an opponent the way Froch did.

He should forget about Froch, go after someone like Stieglitz or Dirrell and start building back up from there.

I consider Bute to be a B+ fighter who got used to fight C-B level guys...

He had no idea what to do when facing another B+ fighter :-(

My thoughts, he got used to taking apart opponents so far below his level they couldn't beat him no matter how hard they tried or how positive they fought he had no idea what to do when a guy could keep up with him and hurt him back. It was actually amazing to me how easily Froch beat him, I was picking Froch but it was obvious it was his fight by the third round.

He said it himself, was surprise by Froch, he panicked and tried to do the only thing he thought could save him; a left counter upper-cut to the body. It didnt work. He was outclass in every department. Now if he comes back it will be by regaining his confidence and improving his D. But there no guaranty he can do it. Sad but true.

Excellent post. But "glass jaw" I think is a little too much.
