Why did Calzaghe wait ten year before coming to the US to fight its best fighters?

Well one of the main reasons is that a lot of the Americans saw him as high risk/low reward, ask Hopkins why he said he would fight him in 2003, then next day ask for double the amount. No one wanted to take the risk, and really can you blame them? Because the first big yank that did got absolutly battered and his career ended. That said Joe did make bad choices, he tied himself to Warren for far too long, and did not have enough confindence in himself.

Calzaghe has been a Warren fighter his whole career - people seem to forget that seeing as he dumped him for the Jones fight. Everyone knows about Warren fighters.

He had no interest in fighting in America

There is no such rule you have to prove yourself in America to be the Worlds best fighter

your thread is one of typical american arrogance

he didnt need to prove himself in America

he is only closing out his career with a couple of fights in America for a new experience

it dont matter where you fight

    a ring is a ring

and Calzaghe had beaten a long list of world class fighters ever before he came to america

To save us??? but we were at war with Germany since 1939. Oh that`s right you declared war on Germany in December 1941 ONLY after they declared war on YOU. Sounds like self interest to me not about saving anyone else. :good

yea but declared war on us because we declared war on Japan and Japan declared war on us but would England would have stood a chance if it wasnt for the U.S. matter of fact not even the U.S. because as much as we did in France and North Africa Russians were the ones who really hurt the Germans
we wiped Japan out but what did England do?

Thats a very narrow minded view of the situation, in my opinion.

Personall i blame both sides. Joe was seen as high risk/low reward so many of the top American fighter's probably were put of by this. I wouldn't say they were scared. They probably trully believed they could beat Joe but if the money isn't right why take the risk. I personally don't like this attitude. I prefer the old school mentality of fighting the best out there whether its for many millions or peanuts. Knowing in your heart that you fought the best out there should come before money.

Joe is also partly to blame as well. The Americans were the bigger names in world boxing so he should have gone over there earlier to challenge them. I and many others don't like the mentallity that you HAVE to go over to America to prove you are the best but if the bigger names are in a particular country, and at the time the biggest names were in America, then you should go over there to challenge them even if the money is low. You can always make your money afterwards when you are recognised as the best.
