Andre Ward crushed him physically and wiped out his confidence. Totally shot to pieces by the SOG.

He had a total of eight different trainers in his career, that was the primary reason for his downfall. That was evident when he replaced Floyd Sr with Eddie Muhammad.

He looked great under Floyd Sr adopting to his system and training techniques. Once he fired Floyd Sr and hired Eddie Muhammad, obviously what worked under Sr didn't work under EM. It's not that Chad desperately needed Sr, it's just that he was chaining trainers often and needed to stick with one who can develop him. When Chad was switching trainers often he was getting mixed signals, he wasn't being developed because every trainer is different.

And it doesn't help that he's mentally weak, he could be easily distracted, has a poor attitude, and made a lot of poor career choices. But his poor attitude was his downfall, had Chad just stuck with one trainer before he won the belt, he probably would still be champion.

I don't get the feeling like he stayed very fit in the off season either.

He was a genuine talent though. Its frequently overlooked these days.

I thought he was winning the Pascal fight, just to make that clear.

..but he didn't seem to take care of himself out of the ring either, and Ward drained him and humiliated him... Adonis just caught him quick when he was already mentally down... hard to recover from any of that.

Though in his prime, a really skilled fighter.

Accepting to fight Ward at 168 was his downfall. He weight-drained himself, and looked really sick in the ring. Ward had an easy time breaking him down and knocking him out. Chad was never the same after that.

Goes from beating Adamek, Tarver,Johnson, and Hopkins to losing to Karpency. Gifted athletic fighter, but mentally weak, reminds me of Jermaine Taylor. Had potential for greatness.

If Dawson was simply mentally weak, he would still be lhw champion. The problem was his poor attitude and his disrespect for his trainers, which resulted him to change corners 10 times.

You saw how Cotto's career was severely effected because he didn't have a stable trainer in his team. His relationship with his uncle was toxic and in two important fights (Clottey and Pacquiao) he really didn't have a trainer in his corner. Then he went through Steward, than Diaz, and now Roach. I thought he looked the best under Diaz.

All the top fighters today only had 1-3 trainers at most (Ward, Pacquiao, Hopkins, Mayweather Jr, Danny Garcia, Kovalev, W.Klitschko, GGG, Bradley, etc). Dawson replaced trainers 10 times. His skills eroded because of that.

He was never that good in the first place. He was a hype job with a glass jaw.

He beat up some domestic level fighters like Tarver and Johnson when they was hyped by the HBO comedy channel and only really known for shattering Roid's repugnant mandible, and beat a drained Adamek. Whoop-de-doo. He beat Hopkins years after Calzaghe had ate him up and spat him out, and some idiots thought he could give Calzaghe a fight :patsch:lol::lol::lol:

Chad was a bit of an idiot too, from memory Floyd Sr called him a r3**** after he stopped training him. It does make sense, as Chad's career seems to have gone from one diabolical decision to another.

A shame, because he was an absolute delight to watch in his prime, so skilled
