Clottey have done that before, but he said it very clearly at the post fight interview that Cotto was still hitting hard and he had to be careful, makes sense to me tho.

Its not that he chose to , its just that he couldnt

Yeah that was only the second time I have seen him fight.

That said he didn't look tired.

    That's just Clottey being Clottey.
reason I made a "Clottey needs a new trainer thread a week before the fight"

Didn't make it any easier on Clottey when Cotto decided to go into his prevent defense in the 11th and 12th. Had less to do with Clottey gassing than Clottey being awful at cutting down the ring.

For anyone who says clottey never felt cottos power, watch 2.12 of the 6th round again. When clottey tried to exchange with cotto he got caught with a massive left hook to the head which rocked him and sent him into defence only mode for the rest of the round. Also in general clottey's defence is overrated, the shell is not as good as moving the hell away from punches or ducking them.

There is no question that Clottey was in trouble that round.

Bottom line, he's a rugged SOB and sucked it up.

Because he's not an elite fighter.. He's missing that special something that divideds the elites from the contenders.

Always found it ridiculous when Kellerman kept referring to Clottey as an elite fighter.

In my opinion Clottey lacks the intensity, the will to win, that often seperates the very good from the very best. Put the shoe on the other foot, and pretend it's Clottey with that nasty ass gash preventing him from seeing right hands coming. I cannot imagine Clottey finishing on his feet under those circumstances.

He ALWAYS has stamina problems, and he ALWAYS will. He has too much muscle mass for his own good. Muscles use up a ton of oxygen, and if you don't have enough oxygen, you'll run out of energy. It's really as simple as that. It's the same reason Edison Miranda fades late in fights.

He has that tight shell defence and is not relaxed at all. young foreman was never relaxed and neither is taylor, De la Hoya is also EXTREMELY uptight and has has had stamina issues. His greatest asset (defence) is also the reason for the stamina issue
