All those fighters are taller and have much bigger frames then Hatton and carry the weight better. Ricky Hatton is 5ft 6 1/2, Oscar De La Hoya is 5ft 10 1/2, Mosley is 5ft 9..etc
Is there a difference between Cotto at 140 and Cotto at 147? Firstly in size. Secondly in how relentless he is at 147 and how he fought in spurts at 140. But there's no difference in 7 pounds? :nut
Hatton would have beaten Cotto at 140 he was drained there and would have needed every ounce of his strenght against him.
there's a drastic change in the fight depending on the weight..what about a catch weight, say 144? Cotto takes this fight, IMO
What is wrong with you??? Stop the what if!!!!!!! Cotto is a 147lbs that fought at 140lbs at some point of his life. Hatton is just too much of an easy target. I think Paul Malignaggi can beat Hatton anyday. Why??? Because HAtton can't box. HE needs a stationary target.
LOL@ Weak and Lethargic at 147.. Uhhh Maybe cause he cant bully guys his own size at that weight.. He bullys small guys at 140 thats why he looks so strong.
cotto is 5'7'', so height isn't an excuse. Its pretty clear cut, he's a better fighter than hatton. If they ever meet, hatton will get knocked out. and he wouldn't be able out muscle cotto. cotto beats him anywhere.
Cotto is a struglling weigh drained fighter at 140 while Hatton is a well established fighter at that weight. So it's great career move by Cotto's team of not forcing the issue. :yep But now . . . if they ever fight at 147 . . . Hatton would get demolished.
Cotto wins @ either weight, but moreso @ 147. Hatton's one of my faves, but his style doesn't match up well with Cotto's. Cotto's too accurate and heavy a puncher. Not to mention he doesn't mind letting his hand go and rarely throws a single punch.
My guess is that Cotto was still learning back around 140 and weight drained and Hatton was off doin' his own thing.. Now he's about in his prime at 147 and would definately beat the breaks off him now.. But I think back at 140, Cotto close UD over Hatton..
Not always. He had been struggling to make 140 for as long as I could remember, but didn't look truly shaky until he fought Corley in 05. It took him 3 attempts to make weight for that bout. But up until that point, he was rock solid. Jim Lampley used to say he took punches like he was wearing a helmet. Prime for prime at 140, say Cotto circa Sosa or Bailey vs. Hatton circa Vince Phillips/Ray Oliveira, I'd give it to Cotto in a good action fight. But Hatton could probably handle the Cotto who fought Malignaggi.
obviously he never fought Hatton cause he was having more and more problems making weight. He might not even have been able to make weight at all anymore
