Why did Cotto never fight Hatton?

At 140 Hatton would beat Cotto by UD, if it was the Malignaggi version he would have KO'd him. I have said this for ages and stand by it now.

However at 147, I would back Cotto to take Hatton, either by UD or late stoppage. We haven't seen a particularly good performance from Hatton at 147, six rounds against Mayweather was reasonable, but not even close to his Tszyu or Castillo performances. But then again, Mayweather is an ATG, Cotto has much more to do to be considered in that bracket for me - a star fighter, but is he merely flavour of the month. Time will tell........

 

I would take Cotto at either weight, and at this time or in the past. His overall skill-level is too high compared to Hatton's. Everything that Hatton does well, Cotto does just as well, and a few things better. Sure a weight-drained Cotto can be hurt, and dropped, but he has the heart and the recuperative powers to come back.

Hatton prior to the Tzyu fight would have taken Cotto at 140, at 147 Cotto would maul him.

 

They never fought because Cotto beats Ricky within a inch of his life, anywhere from 110 lbs to 200 lbs.

These Hatton at 140, Cotto at 147 people slay me. If Miguel can make 140, he will destroy Hatton there too.

Cotto is an elite talent, Ricky is a great. There is a difference.
