Why did Cotto perform so poorly against Trout.

First off, I think Trout is a very good fighter who beats 95% of the guys in his division. However, looking at Trout more closely, I don't think Cotto should have lost to him. The thing with Trout is that his offense is severely lacking and on top of that he fights in a slick style but doesn't have the speed that most slicksters do to make that style work. I just don't see how Cotto struggled more with Trout than he did with Floyd. The only thing is, I can't find a reason to justify why Cotto performed so poorly in that fight. The best I can do is maybe Cotto was just tired after fighting two very very important fights, the first being against a guy many believed cheated him with a lot of bad blood and emotions heading into the rematch and the second being against the consensus best boxer in the world. After fighting those two fights, I guess it would have been kind of hard for Cotto to put himself through the same type of training camps he likely went through for Margarito and Mayweather. On to of that, Trout wasn't highly rated. He was a good but not great amateur who looked lackluster in many of his more important fights (ie Delvin Rodriguez). Did Cotto and his team buy into the hype of Trout being a slightly above average boxer?

I thought Cotto looked Sluggish and Trout wasnt impressive himself .

    I scored that fight 115/113 Trout .

Did not have it as wide as everyone esle did .

Although both fighters looked unimpressive in my eyes . The judges got it right .

    Cotto lost that fight .

Cotto was getting caught coming in & then played it kind of safe. Its not like Trout outclassed him just had enough to win the rounds clearly. I think size had something to also do with it.

I think the difference in size was a huge factor (reach, height, weight, etc). Trout looked much bigger than Lara but he looked so much bigger than Cotto. Cotto doesn't belong at 154, he's just too small if he's in there against a legit, elite 154 fighter.

Because historically Cotto has looked like sh*t vs Southpaws

Lets not continue to overrate that victory like Trout laid a massive ass whipping Cotto, he outworked him in a trash match.....

Nope Cotto outboxes him this time, Cotto tried to spark him for whatever reason in the last match and lost focus, he had Trout looking like a complete fool in the middle rounds when he was content on boxing and dancing.................

:patsch Oh boy, here we go again. And why is that? Is this Cotto once again "rejuvenated"? How many times can a guy be rejuvenated? Right, he beat ESPN mainstay Delvin Freaken Rodriguez so now he's back to his old self? Trout beats Cotto every time. Bad style match up for him.

Trout is a good against come forward fighters (like Cotto), he cannot deal with fighters that don't come to him. He struggled against Canelo, because Canelo doesn't walk into people.

Instead of letting the fight turn into a "stinker" he will try to be the aggressor, but he just isn't good at fighting forward.

This has little to do with Cotto and everything to do with Trout aint ****, and I have stated that over and over and has been vilified here and across the net, did Saturday not prove that to people, better yet just watch his Rodriguez fight. Cotto wont underestimate him this time around and a unmotivated Cotto still won 4-5 rounds, lets not act like Trout put a Margarito, Manny or Mayweather type beaten on Cotto...................

There were rumos about his training camp for the fight was not completed and departing the high altitude way too early due to some family issues.

According to some sources, Cotto's mother wanted to depart the Big Bear since she felt depressed due to the isolation and Cotto decided to depart and bumped heads with Diaz who stated that he need it to focus on the training, let his mother/family go back to Florida and him (Cotto) finalize per schedule. This lead to some disagrements and at the end Cotto broke ties with Diaz.

No finalizing his training camp, early departure from high altitude had detrimental consecuenses with his stamina (notice how Miguel was out of gas VERY early into the fight), along with the type of fight that Trout and Cotto's plan fought were the main reasons behind the loss.

My opinion is that he was looking past Trout....his team was internally talking about Canelo / Martinez matchups!!!

One of the reasons Cotto walked away from Diaz....at this point in his career he cannot afford any setbacks or distractions!!!

He wants one of those two then will pursue a matchup with Mayweather of which Mayweather is fully cognizant.

Because when it comes to the sweet science, KNEEguel just can't handle brothas. Trout exposed Cottoe for the one dimensional and overrated bum he is.
